recent developments and sometimes minimalism where are you radio minimalist monday's but i wonder adipose from cape andrews today because she is part of the year long course on simplicity starting in january she's in recovering the pic of money for a month entities alas day to get early bird pricing a bunch of other amazing bloggers who are part of that that i read right here on the show like the minimalist mark an angel corny car maybe more with less call of asia lifestyle in more scum by old podcast calm slosh learn today together early pricing to today's alas day for that and without out of the way with you the post as we optimize your life why i know a sort of sometimes hate call myself a minimalist by k flanders of key flanders dark com a few weeks ago a shared a list my initial thoughts from the road somewhere silly like noticing all the different license plate designs the montana anna some more fun
the presidential yard signs in every state and somewhere about money oh how i am missing or cheap gas prices america fairly early on into the trip i also came face to face with a i couldn't ignore that minimalism is a privilege and while i wasn't ready to write about it then i've since he other my thoughts and had enough conversations with friends i can finally share how i feel about it now will start with the story whereas backing for the trip i took part in the fact that my entire life could fit into three bags one for the stuff i need a daily one for the stuff i need in cooler weather and one for my laptop wallet books etc my goal was to fit everything into the trunk of my car so anyone who walked past it would have no idea was filled with all my possessions i was the only concern that someone would break into my car and steal everything so much so that i sometimes carried every one of those bags into a home or hotel where i was only staying for one night at time warner i started care less and less about the bag of stuff i would need in cooler whether estate whom
for the remainder of the trip and i only we're opening at once to pull out a flannel shirt at one point trip i realise that while i was glad on my belongings fit into the trunk of my car if everything stolen i would be fine i was an attack anything i owned and while i will love handing over the money to replace whatever i needed i can afford to do so and their allies my privilege the ability to embrace the typical definition of minimalism the many definition of minimalism before i continued i thought was take a step back and talk about what minimalism is originally the word a minimalist was used to describe a style of art and design more recently it is morphed and is now used to describe a person who lives with a minimal amount of stuff and in that you might think and almost can only own one hundred things live in a tiny house and not a single out of clutter in that house some people are these terms minimalism and simple living interchangeably while others must included think there is a difference between the two there are
and caused the fact that a single word can have so many definitions when i'm so the word minimalism one car is that you get confused about what it actually means to go with that another car is that you you like none of the definitions you ve read about align with what it means to you and some definitions could even be if you like minimalism is an impossible standard to live up to conversely one ro of having a word means only different things is that it gives you the opportunity to define it for yourself minimalism on your own terms my finish the word minimalism has changed over the years at first i subscribe to the minimalist definition which is to rid yourself of life i says i thought of this one as declaring their gotta help me get rid of seventy five percent of my belongings but even though it kept track my progress i could learn that minimalism isn't a numbers game you don't have to go a huge percentage of your belongings on a hundred things or even live in a tiny house to be a minimalist if you wanted
do any or all of those things great but you don't have to now i believe it's all about being intentional personal define minimalism as the mind that helps you recognize what as value to your life seen let go of what doesn't and others just applied a physical items but to all areas of your life health habits beliefs relationships work hobby etc there are no rules for how much or how little you can have is not more or less and there certainly no such thing as being minimalist enough the morgan recognize what has value to your life the easier it is to appreciate what you have i want to let go of unhappy you'll be overall and that's what mom was a means to me side i will also admit i have a serious aversion to minimalism being sold as a lifestyle where you need to own almost nothing and everything must be white white walls white tile my furniture and decor
again this part of your definition of the word great but i don't like seeing these instagram accounts or magazines or websites that curate and sell price x or brands at our so called minimalist no matter are you define it minimalism the privilege if you consider the new definition were a minimalist as a person who intentionally chooses to live with a minimal amount of stuff you can physically see the role privilege plays in that curetting alike a home filled with things you love is a privilege declaring is a privilege pack having cluttering generals village but being able to get rid of seventy five percent of your belongings after realising you never needed any of it or not worrying about hide replace all of your possessions of your car was broken into high my name is kate and i am so incredibly privileged you first on definition of woman was a means to me is a privilege being able to do what adds value to your life and letting go of what doesn't how fortunate to be in a position to apply them to any area of my life if my diet is made
feel bad i can walk into a grocery store and by better food if the work i do see me unfulfilled i can find other work if i need or want to learn a new skill i can take a class the list goes on and on a lot i must think about my privilege on the road and i'll be listen say it made me question everything i'm in writing about for the past two years i people who only ever by what they value pieces all they can afford people who can't even do that when there so many people who don't have enough to begin with can i wear the minimalist badge proudly i can't alleys can't if it means identifying as a typical definition of the word and writing posts about what i have to declare or was included my minimalist beauty routine but here's what i can do i can recognize both my current privilege em experiences growing up in a middle class household and western society i can practise being content in grave life i led today knowing circumstances can change and this may not last forever i can share
the personal lessons i've learned since embracing the lifestyle changing my mindset and figure out what matters most to me man said that i'll never be the voice for everyone but i am still boys in this space and i take us seriously finally one thing i will always do is talk about this subject as it relates to our consumption tendencies and habits most important lesson i've learned in the past two years is that whenever i thought about consuming a lot of something stuff alcohol food etc because another part of my life was lagging and it seemed easier to fill that voice with something else rather than deal with whatever was really going on learning recognize and change those harvests doesn't make me a minimalist i'm trying to do is be a little bit better than the person i was yesterday and isn't that the only person you should try to be he doesn't the post titled why i kind of swords sometimes he'd call myself a minimalist like a flanders of key flanders dot com
