Last curiosity for more stories like ie Nearly a decade ago I published a book called the winners are starting to other stories. I told him that book kind of guy
want to have a life of their own. I think I'm part because they came from parts of the world that aren't often featured in business profiles, and one of these stories was from wet. My toot toot dry, in Cambodia, but I went to Cambodia many many years ago. The sky red drove me around in his little took two cart and I listed red phone number in the back of the book. I told him of his story and I said, hey next time, you're in Cambodia, and you need a ride. Whenever you're in Phnom Penh give him a call and since then little dozens of people have emerald me or posted photos of meeting read, the driver was always think is really call right, because it's like worlds collide. You know and ready to go and strong drowning people around on pen and making a much better income than the other took to drivers, which is why I voted. In the first place. But the other story in this vein is a little different. This one was about a guy named I do Corolla guy from India who branded himself as B F F for itself, so best friend forever for Microsoft. Excel, you know, spreadsheets! Essentially he was
helping people with spreadsheets and making a lot of money from it. That's today's collars wondering about about per now what was so compelling about his business idea? Why was it so interesting or maybe it it wasn't that interesting, but why was it so profitable? We're not talk about that in this episode, hiring used to be tough, multiple job sites, acts of resignation, but today hiring can be easy and you only have to go to one place to get it done. That place is zip recruiter, you're, so effective that four out of five employers who post Unzip recruiter, get equality candidate within the first day, I've got powerful gene technology not send your job to over one hundred of the webs leading job sites? Right now tries it recruited for free our listeners. Go to separate or slash side us all that is zero, critter, dotcom, slash, side, hustle, zip, recruiter the smartest way to higher.
Hi Chris. This is George from West Tennessee and I've. The show for about a couple years. Could you more about the spreadsheet guy. Why did it work? I've heard how the story about the guy in India who make six figures showing people? How do you spreadsheets? Can you splain more about why this is so compelling. I don't guess, what most people, including myself but think about winter to decide on a business idea thanks again and keep up the good work what's up? Thank you so much for asking this question activity, but the story every now and then because it's all those things it just gonna keeps coming back and if I think back two more than a decade. Now, when I was first working on this book and doing some research, I came across this story and all dismissed it right away because, unlike hey I'm trying to write a mainstream book about unusual businesses, somebody who says I'm really into spreadsheets, not to stereotype, to stereotype kind of a definition of boring. So my policies, my apologies out there, whose fascinated by spreadsheets- but that was my
pressure at least and the more I heard about it, the more real I was wrong whether spreadsheets, boring or not. His business model was compelling extremely compelling, because this was a guy who, I think, first found him, he was making seventy thousand dollars a year in a country where it that was an x My high salary, a lot of this income, was coming, passively, eventually cross indeed six figures, so this guy in India is making six figures with a lot of passive income, helping people through these templates he made for Microsoft Excel. So why is it so compelling well Pertness side us all was helping people use excel more effectively and if you think about it, there are a lot of office workers in professionals of all kinds who use this software variations spreadsheets or databases excel, etc. Some of them for several hours a day and he was able to make their lives easier, more productive, which of course, has a tremendous amount of value. Like just imagine, if you know you have a pretty stressful day, you ve always responsibilities
complete and somebody comes along and can essentially give you an extra hour of your day and not just an extra hour, but they're they're replacing something tedious with a more efficient process. So it's not just going to save you. Time is coming to save you just mental space and energy. Maybe you can use that for something creative and he can just catch up and breathe a little bit so valuable right and whatever is commonly used in complex witches, spreadsheets, lock, by using them every day. You know you can do some really simple stuff without lot of training, but there are some advanced formulas, there's all kinds of stuff. It can be done in a complex field. And whenever that's the case, there's value and becoming more proficient with it our interest in having some shortcuts and that's what this guy was
capture in India, so many years ago, appears to be doing wealth that, to this day, so, like I wrote in that book a decade ago, take it from partner. If spreadsheets can be made sexy, surely any business can find a way to communicate a similar message than just as a side note its not only spreadsheets right, that's just one example could be Photoshop or some other design programme, some complicated architectural software or database or similar. Here's a statistic I found recently that I've just been kind of thinking about there are now at least two thousand full time: independent contractors who teach people how to use sales force software, so two thousand full time people out there making a living showing people how to use this software, ok, which at a basic level it's not that complicated, but there's a lot you can do with it. So the point is this: business model is compelling because of the difference it makes in people's lives.
Think about that is your developing your ideas, considering different possibilities. What difference are you making and people's lives? Ultimately, that's work. Are you comes from south thanks again Georgia, the question and listeners? If you have one just conversational, Skoda Arms last questions, but we featuring them throughout the year with updates from other listeners. This has been episode. Eleven. Fifty two I'll be back tomorrow, they throwback Thursday segment. You know what a mess, I think so for listening. My name is Chris. Go about. This is side hustle school. From the onward projects.
