hell I what's up a welcome. We have just finished weak number. Nineteen season three inside us will score featuring coffee, importing dog, loving and to Marian building among others. That was just three speaking of three are less than three weeks less than fewer than there are no more than two fewer than three weeks until I will be in LOS Angeles. Phoenix dinner Austin in Seattle. That's just week, one of the one hundred side hustles to tour. I'm really excited to bring you my brand new book, which features one hundred of the very best stories in this podcast in visual form and also in all new presentation that I'm taking to all these different cities. So can't wait for that coming up soon, but for now in this action packed recap: I want to share a powerful, important strata.
You can use while building an initial audience, MRS for everybody out there who is trying to develop deeper relationships with their followers out or to have more powers, more followers, better relationships with those powers, whether those are applied, cashless nurse or Youtube. Yours blog readers, email subscribers. What It is a fact that in just a moment- and I will also bring you in audio update from a previously feature in sight- Ostler, so so glad you're here my name is critical about, what's jump right in so I got the chance to read an upcoming manuscript right at the chancery to manuscript, for an upcoming book by Pat Flynn called a super fan, and I really liked this book was not a picture of the books
actually comes out until later in the summer. I'm- u compared it. I'm sure, but I'll tell you more about it when it comes out when I liked. What I want to tell you about is he writes about the strategy called return, every handshake, and basically the strategy is as much as possible trying to communicate with anyone who reaches out to you that, if any one kind of extend their head in some way, like you know for a handshake, her high five orifice bumper, whatever do whatever we can to make sure you return it. Now. I built my brand using a similar strategy. He talks about. We know what he did about how when he had his blog and people, would leave comments. He tried to apply to every single comment. It wasn't just that. He would also then go to that person's website or their blog and leave a comment on their blog. Then he would also email them to say: hey Joe, I just letting you know. I really appreciate your comment- looks like you're doing some cool stuff to then. On top of that, he would like make a note to follow up with that person. You know a few weeks or a month or two later and
so I bought my brain using a similar strategy, really really relate to this idea of connecting with people directly whenever possible, and I think the one I can have took away from what I was reading here is a key point, because, if you're, just starting out you're like ok cool but I think a hundred people a day leaving comments on my blog here is the key point. Everybody always focuses on this point about how it's not scalable. While you can do that now, button like once you grow, you won't be able to, and in some ways that's true in some ways like we're like right now. To be honest, I'm actually struggling with this, rebus and I'm like man I used to. I remember when I used to like respond to every email and every tweet or whatever that was really fun and, like I feel like I've gotten away from that a little bit. I don't quite know how to fix it. So here's what school like it gets harder as you go. We can leave that aside for now. Here's what Pat said your small and just starting out, you can use the size of your audience in the simplicity of your business, to your advantage. What the advantage being small is that you can better connect with your audience where there are fewer people following you. It your talk to each of them, one on one. So take the time to reply and reach out individually to.
Anyone who emails or messages you whether privately or publicly, but you can also take out initial handshake a step further, keep track of everyone who gets in touch and follow up with them later to them. It'll come out of the blue, be completely unexpected and it will leave a great impression so think about alike. That may it's not ultimately scale of want sustainable ways. Not for thousands are tens of thousands of people like pats. Key point is when you're, small and just starting. You can use the size of your audience and the simplicity of your business to your advantage rights. If you think I don't have a ton of followers. Well, that's good in this case, for this strategy. It's good to not have a ton of followers, because you can really just build these deep relationships with them. So encouragement to you if your business or site hustle or desired business recite us all involves building relationships at all, which you know is public. Ninety, the projects that we talk about in one way or another. You can do this right now. You can start right now. If you got ten facebook friends, you can start with that. You got an instagram.
That's got forty followers or whatever. The number is even start right now, if those people, maybe you get an email inquiry that comes into your website whenever you get back on track for a Laker somebody else's like including a link to your site somewhere is all kinds of opportunities there, and I think you should think about that strategy. Return every handshake as much as possible and if it gets complicated later that's a good problem to have well you're getting going. Don't worry about it. Just focus on returning every handshake focus on those interactions, focus on those little moments of building are you making a difference in someone's life and perhaps even surprising them surprising them by remembering to follow up surprising them bike Above and beyond or answering not only their question, but maybe there next question or bodies they even more helpful what whatever it it's like. You figured out what it looks like to you, but I think this strategy is very, very effective. It's also fun like it's a lot of fun to do this. So thanks a lot to pat per kind of reminding me of that. So, just for framing this interesting way about how, in your small you dont have a lot of followers actually works to your damage, return every handshake,
