There’s a problem. We aren’t what we are.
The book of Ephesians is ultimately about the church. Paul very directly talks about what the church is and who the church is. These are some of the most powerful passages on that subject that you’re ever going to find.
And in Ephesians 2, we’re being told 1) what we were, 2) what we are, and 3) how we can really become what we are.

You are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of the world.
Of God's household built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Christ Jesus.
Himself as the chief cornerstone. In him, the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him, you too are being built together.
To become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. This is the Word of the Lord. >> So we can.
