657: The Practical Benefits of Outrageous Optimism - Pt 1 by Mr. Money Mustache

Mr. Money Mustache shares the practical benefits of outrageous optimism. This is Part 1 of 2.

Episode 657: The Practical Benefits of Outrageous Optimism - Pt 1 by Mr. Money Mustache (Mindfulness & Happiness).

Mr. Money Mustache is a thirty-something retiree who now writes about how we can all live a frugal, yet awesome, life of leisure. He and his wife studied engineering and computer science in Canada, then worked in standard tech-industry cubicle jobs in various locations throughout the late ’90s and early 2000s. Then they retired from real work way back in 2005 in order to start a family. This was achieved not through luck or amazing skill, but simply by living a lifestyle about 50% less expensive than most of their peers and investing the surplus in very boring conservative Vanguard index funds and a rental house or two.

mr money mustache dot com if you ask me everything is pretty great these days your life in my life are both going to continue to increase and awesomeness over time we are likely to have exceptional for gin and health throughout our days will help to change some lies for the better our kids are going to turn out loving and great and we will die with a broad smile across our rugged and whether worn faces some around each of a hundred and twenty two oceans i'll be the odd problem in catastrophe along the way but they will just serve as recharging jolt to keep us from getting complacent more problems to solve more learning to do and deeper happiness to attain on top of that the human race is bound for ever her fate ironing out most of its current problems and mostly problems a fall in the future ending up at a tantalizing star trek utopia those are pretty controversial statements to make these days is
usually enough the general theme tends to become true for the few people who are crazy enough to believe it and most of us don't believe it in fact many of us end up going completely the opposite way one of the problems of the a clever and analytical person like yourself is that you become very good at seeing what might go wrong you can see risks inherent in any enterprise and if you ve got enough cliff clayton in you you might even be fond of expounding about those risks to anyone around who will listen there even people make whole careers of this fear among in general tends to make you sound smart and fearful people get a quirky sort of reassurance by snuggling up to a fearful leader and confidently predicting the worst possible outcome dmitri orlov gets a lot of attention by continuously for telling the complete collapse of the united states peter schiff focuses on financial collapse gaining famed for correctly predicting the two thousand nine financial crisis
then incorrectly predicting doom ever since as the u s economy as roar to record productivity in all dimensions now one of the longest expansion in history a favor technique of collapse theorists is sit at the new screen interpreting development of still further evidence of their theory oh now the since our arguing sure sign of collapse national debt is growing collapse oil consumption rising faster than supply just as i predicted twas foretold twas foretold the same methods can be applied by a personal collapse theorist oh man is job is stressing me out my depart is going down there and we the first ones on the chopping block when the next round of lay offs comes and becoming soon the thing as in this economy i need to hold onto my job because there are no other ones out they're not my field anyway all this is really taking a toll on my health about bad knees and back and they really flare up one
trust so they're getting worse every day which makes me even more stressed which makes me even worse that's my job wish it's me even more likely to get laid off which then it goes on and on it hurts my fingers even to type that paragraph even though it all completely made up but it hurts because it's true somebody will actually things like that on a regular basis and every time i hear it i feel a grasping the since head between my hands and shaking it while i say wake up you're doing more than just discussing your situation right now you're creating your own reality less contrast the life of the personal collapse person to the fate of a really lucky person you probably know at least one person that just so lucky that they annoy you the personnel better job than you always seems to get promotions has cooler friends and maybe even more attractive spouse and greener lawn some even accused play call mr money mustache being annoying for the same reasons o enough from you mustache he retired early and then things seem to keep going well
for you you're making it all love or if you're not is just lock and it can be applied to me fair enough but stopped the figure ants fresh from the trainees law and self help groups feel right right now we're all scientists here so we can acknowledge that luck or the partially random distribution of life situations does indeed play a part in operating life turns out there's a genetic lottery where each person gets different abilities directly from their parents then there's upbringing family location and pure random events supply by the outside world is bound to create a very diverse set of results right have you ever been to a bar and washed a less attractive friend have far greater success in attracting maids or what in an office where he noticed that many of the people and highly paid senior positions are less common and an intelligent than yourself you know there's something fishy about the theory that luck in birth rate alone deliver our fate and that's where we get to the secret weapon of optimism that are brought to you today
i'm having a stainless steel case onto the table and undoing the lashes for you now is lined with black velvet and as i open it up both of our faces light up with golden light just like when they open marseilles walls briefcase in pulp fiction inside it is very smooth very polish tool tat looks like those crafted by advanced alien rays it is made of gold and silver materials with a scolding handling cobalt blue trigger it's your new optimism gun but what good is official asset like an opt in some gun or we're trying to accomplish things here in the real world dancer is i think a lot of good because in this world full of humans almost all of our reality is created in our own heads is money real now wishes to shared standing among all of us that we agreed a store value in non tangible forms one of our goals
small real than money right nope offer a pile of gold coins and nice chunk of meat to a dog and see which when he chooses fame fortune the respect of others or a job as per the ice days just chemical pattern stored in the minds of a bunch of other humans even physical problems like immediately putting human carbon emissions by seventy five percent to reduce climate change or limit poverty and all poor countries are things that could be solved within months just by altering patterns in a bunch of human minds and as it turns out the human mind is exactly the target of the optimism gun but doesn't really work here that in tomorrow's episode you susan apart one of the post titled the practical benefits of outrageous optimism by mr monti mustache of mr money moustached i come i'll finish the rest for you to me
