One of the cruellest things that I get to see as part of my job is the manifestation of the product or products that I dreamed up and created and figured out how to do like. So many of you as a business owner, you get these ideas in your head and it is incredible to get to watch them come to fruition and I started dreaming about one of our most popular products. The start today journal. I start dreaming about this. A couple of years ago I had been doing this daily practice based on several different people. I had heard about several different things and I'm gonna put them together into one daily practice, which was every single day. I wrote down the dreams I had for my life, but I wrote them as if they had already happened there. Some.
Really powerful about claiming a goal as if it's already done, and I wrote down every day- and it was how I set my intentions and then I would post about it on social, and so many people are like what are you doing? What is that? Where do I get that journal and I was like guys: it's not a journal, it's just a notebook, I'm just riding down the same thing every single day, but what I think is interesting, as business owners or creators is often times. In fact, most of the time your audience will tell you what it wants from you and I kept pushing it off because I was like you guys. This is not a big deal, but it was, and people kept asking for, and I finally just thought what if I turn this into a product and I started to dream and plan- and I literally take pictures to the wall of my office, of what I dreamed that my journal would look like in the intention behind it, and I wanted the covers to be really pretty, and I wanted it to be something
once a quarter and then, as you completed, each journal you'd have a stack of this evidence of how intentional you were about your life and we figured it out, and I mean you know some times we messed up on the shipping and sometimes we rest up on the interior, but we failed. Our way to where we are today, which is the start today journal in the hands of hundreds of thousands of people, so incredible such a blessing for me to be able to go on Instagram and see hashtag start today journal and see people all over the world using this practice as away. To aim in the direction of their dreams. So if you are not four million- and you want to check it out, you can go over to the Hollis code. Dot com forward, Slash shop, And find out all about my favorite practice turned my favorite product and, if you're not anymore

I have a one on one with ceo and founder of crew by Darby Angel, the one and only Darby Angel, Darwin shares her incredible story of how she turns being put on bed rest for four months into the groundwork for building a successful dinnerware company. You guys are not even going to believe all the things that this woman has done by just figuring it out. I cannot wait for you to hear my interview with my dear friend, Darby angel. Thank you, so much for hanging out with us today, and you know I always are every single podcast. I know who you are very familiar with. How awesome you are an incredible work that you have done, but for
listeners who haven't heard of you before. Will you tell us your bio? Yes, okay? Well, thank you for having I absolutely love you end and so honoured to get to do this with you today ok, so my life is so crazy. I compare it best to like a scene of the movie l where things hockey about going through this seven levels, the king came forests and the sea is really truly gunshots unbundling and tunnel. Yeah like that seriously my life, yes, no by some ice started out. I live in Austin Texas and am worked for one of the largest Blackburn's in the: U S and it twenty ex pregnant. I went into labor at work and got it on better ass thou and for people. They dont know it better. I says it's Regan Lily only get up to go p and then you get back in bed yet and
terrible ass for twenty weeks. That's more easy! Yes, import type, a personality! It's like. Sudden death, yeah yeah, so like after the first day of dusting, my night sting- and I told my husband- I was like ok- that I cannot watch the food network. I dont. Why should he really why? I gonna start my own company and making Dumay Seas, and I'm telling you all I wish you could have seen his face. So I mean poor guy used, Ok, you're, absolutely crazy, and you're, going back to your real job after the babies born, and I was like okay. Well, you can't Anything to me virtually weeks and second, that the out this it's how his natural response, so that was well, I'm not giving any to start with. So as like, I don't need your money. We're going
Do you like our argument, rural I've time again, and I love I love what you dead, to use that there is a story. I've ever heard my whole life so partner at the lot, Burma had four diamonds. I told her Cindy demure diamonds, tell me what you want and whenever I get on top I get to keep. And I mean like we just hold I'm cause. I remember we were sitting in New York having a glass of wine, and you told me this story. You are like what I got money because as I knew someone who had diamonds and I figured out how to saw her diamonds- and I was child link, if ever in my whole life, it would occur to me that that would be the way to get us in its area needs its glamorous. Sir I mean that you know someone who had done like how in the world you are so that, as I was like, you can't tell me, I can't succeed, yeah, ok, so goddamn,
it's for my partner at the locker. I've lived on in bed and it was easy and I made so much money. I was like what I need more diamonds. U s lips, What year is this gives us a reference diet, doubts in two thousand and eight wow, the economy is awesome at the time and you're I'm gonna get up up up yourself. Some diamonds. Ok, go inside our ok anymore diamonds. To make a bigger and a stag for my company and so I start googling in I went like is close to the diamond source as I can get like the diamond mines, and so I find this guy in Israel name Huey, and I call him up using Skype because that's At that time, am I q me I, You know what it by sometime. It seems like whatever you're this little american girl. I don't want to deal with you and I told her. It's like okay, we're going to be best friends by the end of the school. And we were in use like I wired this guy,
Rachel five thousand dollars. I never met me Beth and I was like I did but I dine oh, my god I and I did it. Thankfully, the diamonds came two days later they were, they were supposed to be, I put them again, and so it allow me to have a bigger nest. Egg, and so I didn't have to worry about. Didn't, have to worry about money. Actually bootstrap my company up until two years ago, just on diamonds, which is ridiculous in any way too much library. I know I can be on listening to this, who, just like I may it's the difference aware, we grew up. Because where I grew up so it will be like. Could we buy a trailer code? I travelled and pulled out a trailer and you're like cannot find someone with a diamond and flip a diamond. I love it so inspiring. How did you side work. What I mean
we will about the company as it exists. Now ya were how was that money, the impetus for either what what you would build at the time I didn't even Have it design programme only had powerpoint to start with, so I used like all of the shape tools in Powerpoint create my designs and then I will just right up to the side pain, tone, color, TAT S. Why we re, we haven't even established, and I want to make sure that we talk about this freedom to which further, but why dinnerware. Why was that oh and appeal to you? Well, ok, so my main goal was always to have my girls or at that time I just had. You knows, have one girl. I now have two girls. I bet out, when a Gina. My new born to have the same morals and dry then that that I have life and felt very passionate about just having being able to have her clothes and have our experience life with me
and so I wanted to pick something that I was. Design a few pieces design because everyone pieces of dinnerware, because everyone registers for dinner when they get married and that'll, be something easier than lodging like a fashion line new constantly having You knew you know, scheme designed and got it, and so I thought that'll be easy in no way is that actually how this runs today, but I thought that you know I'll just design if you think was put it out there on the market it alive on the wall, and then I can just you know. Rome, the world with my little girl, sure decisions. As to go with me, but that's not it, but what I love about this story is has scrappy. You are you were like. I don't know how to do it, but I'm gonna get go on Powerpoint an eminent drag out to make a circle and then I'm just gonna, like you just figured it out scrubby
definitely a good way to described me. I mean when you had to get things done. You have to get things done, may not always look glamorous in all those selling diamond sounds glamorous. Really anything by glamorous green, and we didn't have, we didn't even have a factory, so it starts with a powerpoint. How did you have been? No, what like? I wouldn't. I have no idea like how do you get manufacture? No idea? How did you figure that out yeah I didn't either, but on Skype I met this guy named abuse from China with the american name. Forest was what he chose and so I said poorest. He just wanted to talk to an american girl is all he wanted. As I said before, is go out into China in The factory that will work for free and so forces working Ray is well under the agreement that hey we're gonna, make it the Macy's. I have absolutely no doubt why and why
we do, will all be rewarded, and so forest finds me the same I agree that Ralph Lorn was in an I got great yeah I was like I can he back on rule, and I what it will say, you know there are producing his guides yeah. At the same time, he said, This is all a twenty weeks I had to get this going, or else are now where I still you're still in bed. At this point yeah national, your time, you, like a year's Lowry, hello, as many weeks to poor myself together or else I was going back to my like real job wow as they call it inside the Saint Thomas, I need a defined. The buyer at may cease the head of the division- and you know this, but I mean everybody else may not know this, like. You, cannot google these people and have their information pull up yeah. They work hard to hide from people they're alive, we,
want to talk to you about it. So I have my like little legal pad in bed- and I found out that she- in the Hippodrome building in New York. And so I literally started cold calling into switching at the last word digits until I found her, Is a missing here, but she knew I was stalking her. She had been told by that point because, when she answer the phone she's like oh it's LEO whereas yes and I'm going to you say so he told me she's like meet me in the York on this day and thankfully it was gonna be like a month after Chiana was born and so I met her flew up with my mom and she believed in me so much. I think she felt my passion
this category and purchased Enow succeeding that she said. If I don't have to hold your hand, I will pull rough worn in view wagon test, you on your spot and she went on and she said I'm going to pull off Warren. Oh my gosh, I can't read it because his fact the same factory their Ralph Lauren is yes it. So I can't you just let me that all right, you just kept a straight face. I can tell you that all right, you just kept a straight face and you re out, like a hot sure, salad right, yeah I think I even said something like. Oh my gosh, that sinks for here yeah. So my either, and I got on a plane that next week and we flew to Bangladesh like we did know anyone in Bangladesh and so I'm religious and actually fell ill. I guide said come here and so I just went there and that
were the soul of my company was really created. I saw sites that people should not have to endure I was immersed into a culture that an treats women differently than they do now. Even here, I'm as southern woman and I still have issues but nothing like this. Yes, I've got like ok, God showed These things were a reason, it was my goal to help these women now into empower them to give them a voice. Your family and then next after we did that it was to help their daughters. Now into now. Opening schools nor factories in the mothers bring their daughters is school. The doors can an education. I went there, to be able to dare to dream these big dreams. The I dream, yeah and not be married off at forty, and so were act leaving on Thursday and we're gonna go n b.
At the women, so in in one of my factors were now to fourteen hundred women in the other factually rub two thousand women. Why ends? We're gonna go and follow their lives. So you'll have to follow. Is on our
is your like we'll make Hey all our next women's conference is only a few weeks away and if you have never attended before this is the events that will change your life rise is a three day: women's personal development conference, where we laugh until we pay our pans and we talked about how things are we cry and we find community and we create the road map to changing our lives or our businesses or whatever it is that you're working on? so tell me so you you and your brother, you gotTa Bangladesh. Yet how in the world again, I just go back to this place of Lake wouldn't have any idea how to go about setting up or finding a factory, and I also have to remember there so Much more information is available to us on line right now than there is when you were there, what years there is even less like access to. Where do I go who'd I talked to what did you guys do when you got on the ground? It's a crazy, different experience, mingle aground there I mean we literally just got nor car went to the hotel, our job bags, which is an experience in itself, and we got through like bomb checks, is it it's a different world, and so we get back out, get back into the car any go out, and I had seen that there was a place it was like two miles from my hotel. They did dinnerware. Sam, course Linen Ceramic guides in it took
for three hours to get there in Dhaka traffic Doc is the capital of Bengal you have rickshaws going everywhere end, there is enough, you may, like one or two rickshaws coming south than everyone else is going north in Y yeah. It's like better chaos, so my gosh. But I saw so many sites on the way to that factory- that I am AEGIS, really impacted my life. So I You know called too when I sat down with this, that my purse factory there. I thought I'd. Ok, no matter what, Gaza during this meeting I I know I need to be here, and so we worked through so many different issues. I mean they refused to speak to me at first. While you are a woman. Yes, while so my brother was saying that to me and I would merely have to turn to be like airing. Can you ask them what their capacity is? Can you ask them? Why audits, what testing they dine and they would respond to me at all, as if I had even said a word, that they would respond to him
well, yeah in I could have been like at that moment. You see. Name on that check that story angel and, if you don't talk to me, you dont get my money yeah, but I was like no. I want them to know my heart, I'm here to help them and it about a year of work through it, just the cultural barriers to em. That the day gained that confidence in me, and they knew that I was there to help them hey guys, will be back in a hot minute with more of this interview. But now a quick word from a sponsor.
Each chapter of girl, wash your face, begins with a specific lie. I used to believe that left me feeling overwhelmed unworthy or ready to give up. As a working mother, a former foster parents and a woman who has dealt with the insecurities about my body and relationship, I try and speak with the insight and kindness that would come from a best friend. I want to help you unpack the limiting mindsets that destroy your self confidence and keep you from moving forward. My book girl, wash your face, is available everywhere. Books are sold and the audible version is narrated by me I hope, your check it out.
If you are heading in the new year with a huge desire and a new year's resolution to get organised. I have the answer. The cosy up. This is something that Dave and I discovered honestly through trial and error. We really wanted to get our lives together. We really wanted to schedule that he and I could both have to access what the kids were doing on which days what doctors appointments we need to go to whose birthday party was the Saturday and honesty guys. We tried out about fifteen different options before we found cosy. We Of cosy because we have access to each other schedules, but the kids are up to and our nannies on it as well, so we can all communicate. Who needs to be doing why at what time? If you are a working parent, you have to have this app and here's the deal to really cool things. You can even add items to your cosy, less using Amazon Alexa and it
totally free. You guys, get the cosy, app c, o the eye from your app store or cosy dot com, Ford, Slash, Rachel. Hey I'll. Do me a favor wire listening to today's episode, take a screen, shot and put it on Instagram or your instance stories and tag me. I love hearing what you think and seeing what you're up to and it helps the tribe remember. To listen to this week's episode thanks so much So you you that that was the first factory that you ended up signing as our right. Yeah now we have factor, is all over the world and that my goal is always help my Bangladeshi family and so now than men. Look at me like their sister, they take care of me in we help each other out. It's beautiful like it is,
one thing that I should have never happened and I should have walked away the minute that they were now looking back, I'm like how in the world did. I had this string to even keep my mouth closed when they were disrespecting me so much just over and over, but I think it is really me. Listen to God and being like just patient It's just patients right now, so you get me you sign on with a factory, and then you got your order and Macy's. Is that right, yes, and yet in it's, like you know, is if you build will come but like how did the word get? How do people know that you had something in store? How how or did they sell really well once you have on a shelf we did at birth how it works. We outperforms both Ralph endure wing and we got to expand based on that. That's an end yeah, but I mean it was it without issues I've fallen hundreds. Times.
It's because they they know me as a person that they've stood behind me and built me up and no way should they have left me on the floor. To run a company and just the struggles of learning, how to run a company, and so it's you know it's a struggle in. No, that you know people there like wanting to start out. It isn't easy. The end! that so often I'll get contacted by people, and I think that they think ok, right, follow her set step by step. Yeah, I'm gonna be six, school cool. You know we each have our own story. I think that you know you can't specks someone to just stay by your side. One hundred percent. The time you have to realise that this is your own dream, and this is your own story and you have to face
Each failure as you're gonna, get back up even after you all in just note. That's the end goal. Will that the underlying theme that I hear with everything that you're saying is it sounds like from the very beginning. You had total certainty and what it was that you are building. You were you absolutely certain that it was gonna work and because you were absolutely certain it was going to work. You could then every per ino from the fur sky with diamonds, to the mean the buyer at me seized to the Renault factory worker, like you were able to commence, and because you had such conviction and what it was you believed could happen. Yep and think for so many leaders are so many women who are either. In a managing a team or wanting to build a company that is the peace that they So many people are missing. Is the confidence like you know that you're products
great. You know what it can be. You have to be able to sell other people on that yeah. It's hard. As a woman, like specifically as a woman, I think that's really hard to do. Having that confidence to be like I'm not gonna, be again, in southern women- are kind. Conditioned below you re use Think of yourself last in even you're willing to run after something that you boys dreamt tat. You're gonna be in a maiden bill more than likely, like you know, it's a burden to everyone around you that you're going after your call yeah, and I think that I heard that you know what you know it's it's you're, making everyone else sacrifice around you in. Think you know don't let that psych your dreams out of you, because the true story is that everyone is sacrificing every day You know why was at the light at the law firm, our soccer
I think not living out. You know they tell us that God gave me and I was living. You know so comfortable in this nice salary position and I think that you know looking back even the sacrifices change from year to year, its inner, whether it's a lack asleep or the beginning, I was holding a colicky baby. There was crying and and to speak to a fact factory worker in broken English on what was going on every year sacrifices change from year to year by I, wouldn't let that stop you from living out your dream, Hank, I man. I love that wisdom for people who are listening em. It's like there's so much conversation about work. Life balance can you have it all in water and women are constantly searching for the answer in there, and I think I I am really passionate about the idea that you and pursue being an incredible.
Rational woman, an incredible mom and incredible wife, an incredible daughter front like you aren't gonna get there every day, but you can pursue that and right. There has been this myth like when people talk about balance, it's like well, how do while yeah eggs we first halt. That's no such thing like I. There is an imbalance, it's it's a lotta balls in the air, a lotta chaos at the lotta You just try and find your centre. You might not find your bounds, but you can find your center, but ever me personally I am so inspired. When I hear other women who are alike yeah girl, I dont get there every day, but I am in pursuit of out stand in every area of my life- and I will not apologise for that Actually, I love that you said like that, there's feeling. When is you know you were talking about southern culture, but I think this exists for a lot of women that your dreams are a burden on others.
Guys, I've never had someone put it in a sentence that way, but it really is true, and it is a great question of like- is that Other people are telling you is that just what we tell ourselves have He told ourselves that if I follow my dreams, I am burdening my spouse? I am burdening my children like. Is that something right tell ourselves yet I mean in that. For me, it weighs like fifty fifty yards with me. I know I wanted my girls first and always to know they did they, strong mother that had goals she set out to get them. I'm so thankful, because now I see my girls mimicking that bold side of me in their coming up. With what is it they can impact the world on their own, I in their so young by knowing that they ve already gotten that that sofa owing to me that anything else it happens, I'm like I've,
we ve done. The job already completed the job I set out to do by letting them see that they can go after wherever they want to. I think we all want our kids Sybil like that, but they're not gonna, do it. Unless you, they see you doing it totally at sea as you know, as the the lines and may see it's doing really. Well, how did you sort of goal set for yourself like okay, I hit this my toe and now now I don't want to spend Macy's now I want to be in X Y, see or now like how. How did you keep kind of dangling a care for yourself about what the next steps were it just I was you ready that I, like always wanted to push. They taught to talk to the top. Whatever I was doing, and so we went to bed bath afterwards and then and then I decided I was I. Where is the best place on earth, and I love Disneyworld. My hat I give
growing up. We went to Disney every summer and the beach was another place invite I grew up Walt Disney inches, just his imagination in the detail and so becoming a partner in some way with them was like the ultimate goal, and so They contact me. They said we want to fly you out and have you you know come show us. Your designs give us some thoughts. The my gosh, you ve gotta, be kidding and so before them I'm always pursuing people, and so I hadn't really understood what the feeling of being pursued felt like oh wow, and so when I got there, I had my broad automobile, my dolls and whistles, like I normally do, and we like throw this party. Basically, when we to a meeting, and they had done the same thing for me and says: like total overkill have got, and I set back in that
first sign. I realise, as like. Oh, my gosh did tables of turns end now, these people want me and like as much as I won And you just did like the best Going out ever felt tat in that move in and you just stay at some stuff with kindred skies that right yeah Yes, we are, we ve done SAM differ. Designs for her that are launching and so excited about it, and I M showing yes and or your at those of you that don't know kindred Skype. She is an amazing woman. She's, like a are you look up picture and cheese gorgeous, but she really is like a son
and Barbie Doll, that's just witty and has charm. Yes, in an interview on how I built this, and it does so incredible, everyone should go, listen to it. She has as yet similar story to you in that, like she strapped a baby to her chest and yet locked door to door and called every single person and had absolute certainty about what it was she wanted to build. So yeah, I remember when you are telling me the story initially of like girl sounds like Kendra, but so yeah. That's how we is hit off yeah when we first met in she's been an amazing support, I'm beyond Bless tee, However, as a friend in a you know, someone that just stands beside me, how being I having a product, so we have every kind of person who comes on here, but having a company that does consumer proud, What do you feel like has been the toughest chow.
Land or the biggest hurdle and navigating this space for you my goodness and training of the top thing, I know you're like along the F B. I read it is it's hot, to have products in Big box retail, and I mean everything- inventory management? You know learning what you know, projections that you should imagery. You should have on hand In growing and that too, you know I'm not wanting to we. Small, and so I was the only person I always in a you need a good cop, bad cop. Sometimes in I always had to just be the good in the face of these peoples, I couldn't push as hard as I really needed to push so there were so many challenges like that as well. As I mean in every,
business relationship? I look at it like a dance in everything, from my partnership with the diamonds to their retail buyers, to my factory workers, you're gonna step on each other's toes and they beginning until you get used to that relationship in its work. Looking through things I think, and one of my first orders for my factory, they shipped it. This is when our relationship was still building and they were learning that they had to listen to reason they ship me designs did they? changed because they thought they would look better guys. You can't just do that. The region, I'll Macy's has ordered the prior to look like this yeah. I can't to them with half of the design on the way we not going to work, It's definitely like learn learning to have my own voice as well, because again that was something you know that was
it I didn't always have this. The strengthened in know the driver in my life. I was in the back seat, Burma's stubby in I think that you know even in a product world like you, have to find your voice really quickly and be the driver or else ear He's gonna get left behind in you know no one's gonna see your product on the floor, such great that such great wisdom for anything in life is like getting to a place where you are fully embracing, who you are what your voice says. What you're quirks are what you're style, regardless of whether or not anybody else get said trying yet sort of copy. Other people do you're, never gonna fight your way out of the noise or so many, no matter what field you're in there, so many options for the consumer so yes, he only hope that you have is to be off antiquity yourself or that exactly yeah I've been tickly yourselves. Hats are totally
I'm curious, as you were, navigating that space in trying to figure things out? How often you hired hired what didn't know and ask that question is someone who, personally, he's gone two ways with us. Wine is that I have a staff of people, I always want to hire on people who are smarter than me, but realize like a year ago that I was hiring people who are smarter than me only in the areas I felt very competent and. So then there are other areas that are definitely needed. Someone to come in and offer me wisdom, but I hesitated tiresome one smarter. Me in that area, because I would I was worried that I wouldn't like how do you manage someone who knows where more than you know about an area that you need for your business. So how much did hiring smarter people plan to your growth, or did you just figure it out?
well in the beginning. So I was, I mean, I've gain this confidence strength as I've gone on. This has been a ten year journey, and so the person that you see today, you know is in the beginning I was still listening to these voices that were just you know, cause so in the beginning I was still listening to these abuses that were just you know. To me, and they were all saying you should be able to. You know, navigate everything on your own. You know B b, the leader in each of these things, which is false information, and so I would I wishest in a ring on people that work. Greener than I y yeah I get there in failure like why. Why can I not get this engine to keep running and so then I thought you know. I need to find the people that are strongest in these areas. I know what I'm great at, and I need to focus on that in.
Have no issue at all delegating. I think that that's another thing that you have to remember. You know you to be successful? It cannot just be a U game. You have to delegate to succeed in so I go to like we're launching a new website in MID September, and so I went to the chief at E commerce as one of the largest retailers in the? U S? An item and I say that I need to adjust is willing our sight and import kindreds. You know that that we're doing on there and we're going on pvc in November and then again in January, and so I needed to make sure that my brand, my designs are staying on Briand since I'm launching everything so quickly, I'm so I wait and I stole the cheap fashion that had been there for thirty years. I said you're coming with her, you were right, you told me nothing, for you are a thief in the night.
You were go you! I love that you're, like rogue. You are here of your you're, like that you are killing as I'm gonna go. Take you and put you on my team. Will you needed there to let go of this section of my company? I have to make sure that you know exactly what you're doing and I'll be pulled in, but I be there one hundred percent time anymore to actually be running the company and get in a working on growth? As someone asked me this morning, there alike, Gina an issue. Delegate like no, like my people know about their doing, and I have the utmost. Confidence in them were an amazing worth family yeah. We work together and were all no, even though there you know that word chief fashion, or were they cheat chief of E Commerce and they come in and do other things too, like marketing I'll get their opinion on different things are working on, even though we have it having as your staff there now
right now, optically, domestically fifteen okay, I all basin taxes. They all em. They're. Ok, now were in New York in an austere, and so I spent and am happened my time here and then I'll spend. I try to do three to four days there, did the rest here, it's a hard job. I would love. I know it's hard to narrow this down to one thing, but our girlfriends were listening, who Maybe they wanted started Etsy shot. Maybe they just have an idea for one product. Maybe you know just what is the piece of advice? If you are, if someone is trying to build a product based business, they are like. If I could do one thing over again, if I could give you a piece of wisdom, it would be there. I think kids, I always thought that there would be this like wine magical person that I was gonna find in that person was gonna, have all the knowledge that I needed to just
carry me through and I think that you have day- you know go into this, knowing that this is your dream. There won't be just one person to hold your hand and sometimes they have to move on. You're gonna become stronger and you're gonna need somewhat stronger than to start helping your dream become bigger. Am I That is also just leaning on the talents that God gave you and if you do that, and if you care that you know passion with your knowledge. Then it's gonna take far and for me that much my goal was always suggest, show my girls that they could charge of their life. I mean I think, as long as you're, following those things that you will become successful, just knowing gonna fall. It is fully normal. I'd like I should be hiding underneath my bed stay setting crying, though you don't have to
grit died. So just now like when you do fail here, companies are failing. Huge machines that have been around for decades are having the same issues that you are as well. I mean you may not think it but ask me they are end. Keep pushing through. Are you a big reader POD Catholic yeah yeah so soon You guys. I am obsessive about person growth, especially as pertains to being a leader at a business what are you, what have you read or what are you reading that you really loved or has been really helpful to and in this role the first book that I ever like clung two ways by Howard, shorts? It was onwards. Have you read that now I read or your heart into it, right now, ok onward our I I need to know where you got what ok. I read. I carried that book around.
With me for a solid three years, because he was yeah, he's so vulnerable in it. He does it talk about his successes, he talks how do you and how he kept getting back up in you even magical in it, and so what I took away from that was just carrying that magic over into my own company and so on the buyers come in. I turn on magic for them and show the passion that set me up from everyone else in our industry- and I think that you know didn't actually graduate from college, but it's all been Bren from, but me that is my education, a hundred percent. It's it's one Oh- and I love I love when people are honourable in wheat, about our failures instead of just talking about this excessive, because that's when we all grow in way
the day insight. We should be building each other up more and that's that's where we're gonna get it now you a conference person and you attends like. Do you? Do any kind of country and education like that, or is there not time in year, schedules no bite the one way that I really do that I don't go to conferences, but I just around myself with amazing frenzy had building Heather out yeah so again, it is being that vulnerable, open relationships that I found to help, every single episode of day as I ask every one that I interview the same five questions. So I'm and ask you those questions I said so, what time do you get up in the morning? Ok, I force myself to get up at six. Thirty, seven, unless I am travelling and then I forced myself to get up at five thirty so that again, like answer all
the correspondence and just get the typical thing done before that, like back to back meetings, are totally but I'm like now I would say up to one thirty every night, if I could go my gosh, I told you know I'm the opposite. I am which bed early to rise. I want to be asleep, and I want to wake up before the sun, like I got up at five a dot m this morning, just out of bed, I'm ready to go, but I also want to be asleep by, like nine p dot m. I believe that would be my dream. I don't get there every day, but that would be my dream. What is your coffee order? Oh my gosh. I love copy meat. I wish. I can have my coffee. Was she like on the side of my bed? The I start I would like just to cuts black coffee and then
your lights, we go and we get an americano with cocoanut milk everyday. I love it. You have a route, a coffee routine, like that it is to be very structure, and I've heard today Is there an item? You travel a time for work. What is the item that you cannot travel without? Oh my gosh it. If I forgot my bones on a trip, I dont know what I would do, because I have to have music and on the plane. Like that's the first thing I sit down, Emma Music going am able to just so much work dying on the fly with my hat are now. Are you? Is it air pods? Is it be like what kind of headphones do I use clips well, who you are doing they have like awesome base Let me I love it
that is the line. I wasn't expecting you to be like thumpin base over their yeah, that I want, because what is your work out, give a physical activity that you are pretty hard core about ok, so I yes, two things I love to wake, sir. So why world, ok, you're, officially the first person who said that so bad Rad a like wakes every day. That's actually the goal of mine for retirement is as right. Travel the world and a sir goes right, but it just like it's the one well wait serving in running are the two things that decompress me and is being on the water. I have my family, my friends on the boat and your listen. Do you know amazing, music and relaxing and laughing it's. It's amazing. On Friday afternoon, like I'm already a muslim sue and right ahead to the late suit services
The last question: I ask everybody this: if there was one thing that you wish, you say two young women who are coming up in business today to women, who are fighting to have a company or fighting to have a career. If there's one piece of advice, you just like shake shoulders in me like girl. If you don't take anything else away from this? Take this piece of advice. What would it be our goal? I mean, I think I'm gonna go back to like running with your dreams and- following them. No matter why anyone tells you to do you'll find the right people to support you that you need after you, ve started down your path, but don't let's when telling you you know this is not convenient for you right now, because You are strong in your life. It's gonna make your whole life stronger, its
make. You live a life full of purpose and in that trumps you know any sacrifice it you're gonna. Make too. I would love to know what your husband thinks of your success you know being sort of nervous that you would start your own thing and, like you're, going back to work. What does he think of what you ve felt now we up until it's in a totally different families, two's lifestyle, yeah. And so, while he I know, he's struggles with it he is, cited about why I've gotten come. Me too. Now I think that he still struggles because a people around him there we'll say your. Why not normal, why everyone around his instinct, their wives, stay at home and they had dinner at five o clock ready and they, you know, are doing blah blah blah blah blah blah, and it's like cooking cutter, perfect. Why can't you just do that's? Why?
I think that that is really hard on him in his voice. I thought you re, that's that's the error. You live in two I mean it I to some extent it does happen everywhere. I would say: Dave has and so many questions over the years from other executives in the entertainment industry whose wives stay home and it'll be like Rachel. Does. Why shit? Why? Why is that her hobby and he's like no it's Humph and on what I'm talkin about it, so it is really crazy when you are in cultures, where it's not the norm, for the wife to work and kind of what right. Stresses on the on the spouse? Because of that? So I appreciate the right honesty yeah. I mean it some that you just have to keep working through. You know daily innocent, conventional, it's not an eighty five. Yes, yes, I do travel by. You know they again at this. Provided you know what what were good,
out of it for my girls trumps any sacrifice it I'm making on the ground here, worse, two. Why you're getting out of it. If that was The only gift in this that you are fulfilled and excited and passionate and getting to live your dream. That is the value I think a lot at her eyes were so bad, even thinking you know, like an that's, that's likes. How so many of us were raised that we're? Not supposed so many women. I talk to Ladys about this. A lot is like we were raise that we were allowed to want our own dreams and hopes for ourselves if that meant business. If what we want for ourselves was to raise babies and keep a home. That was the right choice. But he wanted like we're not supposed to want we're, not supposed to be fulfilled. Oh my gosh fulfilled by your passion about your work. How dare you like? That's all Oh yes, it's totally you alone. So many people live in that and beyond
yeah that that the men in life should be able to feel passionate and excited about their careers, but we should it is so dangerous, so you are giving this incredible gift here, others they get to see what a woman can become. But let me just speak over you that you are also getting to live your life and your dreams, and if that was all this was that the right thing sir, I cry so much. I love my lovely I'm already like. I had a text Darby, we need to have like a sea. Oh we ganz. Unlike what is email Theo's. Do you know who do? I know we need to go into a lay cow.
