One of the cruellest things that I get to see as part of my job is the manifestation of the product or products that I dreamed out
and created and figured out how to do like so many of you as a business owner, you get these ideas in your head and it is incredible to get to watch them come to fruition
and I started dreaming about one of our most popular products. The start today journal. I start dreaming about this. A couple of years ago I had been doing this daily practice based on several different people. I had heard about several different things and I'm gonna put them together into one daily practice, which was every single day. I wrote down the dreams I had for my life, but I wrote them as if they had already happened there,
something really powerful about claiming a goal as if it's already done- and I wrote down every day- and it was how I set my intentions and then
I would post about it on social, and so many people are. What are you doing? What is that? Where do I get that journal, and I was like guys: it's not a journal, it's just a notebook.
Writing down the same thing every single day, but what I think is
interesting as business owners or creators is often times. In fact, most of the time, your audience will tell you what it wants from you and I kept pushing it off because I was like you guys. This is not a big deal, but it was and people kept asking for, and I finally just thought what, if
turn this into a product, and I started to dream and plan, and I literally taped pictures
wall of my office of what I dreamed that my journal would look like in the intention
Behind it- and I wanted the covers to be really pretty- and I wanted it to be something that you could do once a quarter and then, as you
complete at each journal. You'd have a stack of this evidence of how intentional you were about your life, and we ve heard
now- and I mean you know-
times we messed up on the shipping, and sometimes we rest up on
interior, but we failed our way to where we are today, which is the start today journal in the hands of hundreds of thousands of peace
oh so incredible, such a blessing for me to be able to go on Instagram and see. Hashtag start today journal and see people all over the world using this practice as away
to aim in the direction of their dreams. So
If you are not familiar and you want to check it out, you can go over to the Hollis code. Dot com forward, slash shop and find

dinner's that I'm in a could later in the week I got as me

is my fourteenth attempt to record this episode of the
had cast its my fourteenth attempt, because I have never set up the podcast stuff
I myself until today, and I really thought it was much easier than it actually
I am coming to you now from Dave's closet because
is the only room that is clean
And ass, and far enough away from my screaming children in order to record this week,
Bear with me for a couple of weeks, as we navigate recording packages, episodes before a new office is set up. I promise
minute the audio will be much better than it is right now, but I figure it's better to bring you something. That's not perfect, but at least is done.
We, however, that saying before done is better than perfect. I am a walking talking
ample of that. I would always
get it out into the world and then tweak at once. It's there so
girls here we go this week. I
that I would talk to you about a question
and so many times
trades and hundreds of people have asked me this question and definite written about it on the site. But I thought it might make an interesting podcast episode for those of you who are interested.
And that is how
I lost wait now. It's really important to say
right up front that it takes all kinds of kinds. Women are beautiful.
Our bodies are a gift and
There is nothing wrong with you
You ve read, grow wash your face than you know how I feel about the topic of health. I think it is incredibly important that you are healthy
we have to look a certain way. You don't have to be a certain size, but you do have to be able to
on a mile without having a heart attack you
do I need to be able to have the energy to keep up with your children. You
Do I need to be able to walk up a flight of stairs without getting winded and if you are struggling with your house right now, if you're struggling with your way. This is not my attempt
bash on you in any way. This
is my personal story of being about
Forty five pounds heavier than I am right now so
you follow me on social media. You ve ever seen me at all in the last couple of years than you have. An idea
as of of how ill luck and my shop
you to know that I used to be a size. Fourteen now I've got a lot of grief,
People when I say that on social because they were made
me, and rightly so- that
there is no right side,
Yes, and that is so true because well come in different sizes and shapes by you have to remember-
that I am barely barely five feet, two inches tall, so when you are,
have to- and you are a size fourteen.
It- is very unhealthy.
For me I got to that place because,
A few reasons why I never understood health food worked and I'm a talk about tat. A little bit
but I never understood how food worked. I was an immense
eater. So any time life got hard. I got stressed out. I got frustrated and as a new man, the avenue me all the time I am I ate I ate to make myself
better. I also free-
only half of my meals for years and years were fast food. I just didn't know better
you know, there's an that old saying when you know better, you do
and I slowly learned
to take better care of myself and it my alone
make you happy or bomb you out when I tell you that my weight loss journey from
how many you sizes, because that's just the easiest way I can acquainted because I dont way myself any want more.
But from a size fourteen to assign to IRAN,
marathons I work out all the time I don't have us I'd have six pack arrives, I dont have you know
gun, show arms gosh. I hope so respect those women who do, but I, I frankly don't feel, like I have the time
tonight the Jim that much by.
Do so really great about my body and I do feel healthy and I do feel like. I have energy and here's the thing. This is not a quick fix
if you turned into this episode, because you were hoping that I would tell you that
I lost way and got healthy over the course of you know.
A few months or six months or even a year, I am so sorry I lost have a quick fix. I lost eyes
early to go for a site fourteen to assign to and maintain it has probably taken five years. If not six years, I didn't lose weight quickly, because I didn't go on a diet. I changed
lifestyle, and that takes time, because it's a new habit that you are developing to replace old habits that weren't serving you. That is not a quick
process, so I thought I would tell you there steps that I took to get from there to hear in the hopes that maybe one of them will spark some interest for you
or I ll give you an idea, but
Just now that the journey to being healthy, I think, is lifelong and
I really admire women who have more muscle tone than I do, but I also reckoning
eyes did their only so many hours. In my day an
be when I dont have a one year olds,
I will have you know what it over one year old and a book. That's do and accompanied IRAN and nonstop travel, maybe a little bit more free time to devote to something like that, but right now I need to be
mindful of the season, I man. So what matters to me most is the unhealthy and feeling good and getting regular work out. Then I ll save, like you, know, bikini model,
status for later, but
if you want to know how I got from there to hear here, are the steps that we took.
You guys are not going to believe it by me announce something really exciting a couple of weeks ago, which was that gonna be enabled theatres, I'm not even making met up. We had done so many Emil's and letters and d and asking you guys could experience one of our life and then we can see how you could experience rise weekend if you didn't have the money to get so many requests for this when we were planning. This year's events really happy, and I so wanted an answer. So I thought and dreamed and trade and planned, and he decided to lord- we entirely again and turn it into a documentary and I'm so excited to tell you tat. Rachel Hollis presents made for more will be, and it is obvious second, in both the: U S and Canada so be sure and check with your local theatres get your tickets. Now you can find out more information on let's rise, Doc, CO, which has all of our event and though, but I hope to see their it's gonna be so much fun. It's gonna be a chance for all of us to come together in community to see a movie with Oliver bases on which is so crazy, but also to experience one o clock conferences for the cost of twelve thirteen. I hope I will see their number one and most important in my head is
You need to adjust your way of thinking from behind
the idea of going on a diet, which is something that we.
You for short term amount of time to get to a free, destined.
Amber because we're getting ready for vacation or because our sister
his wedding is coming up. I got
out of the mindset of diet and got into the idea that I needed
change. My lifestyle completely
Oh I'm sure that a lot of you are like me and you have been on em.
We diet. The world has ever known, starting
for some of us when we were still honestly little girls,
We saw a mom due weight, watchers or Jenny Crash Gore, actions that aid or south Beach or fill in the blame, the absolutely work to lose a rapid amount away.
Quickly, but they are not sustainable long term. So it's actually really
terrible for us to make the choice to do something like this. I know about you, but it always really messed up emotionally, because
would do something crazy, like only eat cabbage, soup or whatever, and then I would lose weight feel great about myself
then eventually I can't keep up with that. So I
gaining wait again now I should like garbage now meeting everything in sight. Now, I'm eating you know
been doing everything in the kitchen
hey our next women's conference is only a few weeks away and if you have never attended before this is the events that will change your life rise is a three day: women's personal development conference, where we laughed until we pay our pans, and we talk about our things that we cry and we find community and we create the road map to changing our lives or businesses or whatever it is that you're working on. If you want to find out more your curious, what it's all about, I highly recommend you go check out the instagram and see what our community says. You can hear it straight from them. It's at: let's rise, dot, co and, if you're looking for the next one, it's happening in Toronto. On March this through the seventh that's Toronto March. This, through the seventh check out all the details at the Hollis cold dot com. If you have been looking for a nudge, if you have been looking for something to kick start change, I promise this is the thing.
Not healthy for us so rich
the change for me came when I stopped thinking of weight loss as it
decided that weight loss will be a journey that I was
Gonna put a time limit on it and that
I would have a plan that would incorporate
to my lifestyle forever forever.
Not just a short term diet, but a forever plan. The second thing that I did
this was so super important when you're thinking of the idea of a long term.
And you can sustain, was
started to truly understand food. Now
I still am not an expert in any capacity like that.
So many people are so much more
full and wise about what we eat and how we
and also their a million different opinions on the kind of food that we should be consuming in order,
I too am lose way or maintain way.
But for me I mean talked about this alive. It's in the book. I talk about how I gave up diet coke for thirty days,
So you know another story already years ago I was a diet, coke fanatic, like ache,
crazy bananas like this was my crack cocaine. I love diet. Coke I drink them all day long!
and I realized at some point that they were very
healthy for me. I was get like side eyes from women when I give this speech in front of a group is always women in the audience who loved. I saw it, I d love their diet Pepsi or they took their diet, coke
so annoyed when I say this by this- is now
like up for debate the stuff
they put in diet, so that is so bad for you. It. The chemical is so bad for you look it up. It is not a healthy thing, and so,
diet coke to me was the first thing that
I decided I needed to give up. If I was going to try and be healthier, I didn't trying
on a diet. I didn't try and lose weight honestly. I just
I thought to myself.
I give this up for thirty days without breaking this promise to myself I had broken a million
promises to myself over and over and over again.
And for half marathons. I didn't complete started it
diet. I never continued said that I was
Jabez said that I was gonna. Do that I had
in these instances where
keeping my promises to everybody else, but breaking the promises to myself. So I thought what, if
Just for thirty days. I do not go back on my word. I don't drink diet cook and I did it and you
read about in the book. You wanna hear how and why all that good stuff or if you want to find out more about not breaking promises to yourself. But the point is that giving up that diet, coke for thirty
is made me realize that I could give up anything and
I slowly started to change my diet and at first now remember I'm a size fourteen. I'm.
Fast food every day, the easy
this thing for me to give up was drafted.
And now I say easy- it was not easy to go without those delicious chicken stirrups from Carl's junior or caution breeders supreme from talk about what I would give the ether right now and not at the calories affect me
but I knew again I knew was really bad for me and said.
I gave up passive and I just did that guy's.
Course of several years. I would give up something that I knew was not healthy for me,
and slowly but surely without really doing anything else. I start
to see some of the weight come off and I'll do another purchase episode. Where I talk you through,
diet, if your curious and when it
they die. I mean the food consumed, not like a diet, but I'm
slowly over time, learned to of lemonade things from my diet than a new were not healthy. Until I got to the
place where every time I eliminated something I would lose a little bit more way, a little bit more away in a remember, I'm trying to lose
forty five pounds so far
points here and five pounds their slowly over the course of the years. I would say,
I mean I've kind apply toad and I wish there was something I could do. Then I would look at midday
you consuming right now that you're kind of pretending is good for you, but you know it's not, and then I would try giving up that thing and seeing if they made a difference in it all always did so for those who are listening.
I don't. I think there are a lot of great options out there in the world. You have to find the thing that works for you and makes sense for you, but here's the deal
when it comes to food it
to be something you can maintain if you're like
think they idea Kido, so cool, and if you don't
you can look it up, but am I dont know how people could maintain that for years and years and years, but maybe I'm wrong. That being said, here is the absolute truth. If you want,
to lose weight. It is not about working out. It is about what you eat now I know probably,
you are getting annoying because work out our important exercises. Important building, muscle tone,
having energy. All of that comes from a workout, but if you're working out often
and you're not seeing anything. You still can.
Hang around wait, that's making you first
equally feel uncomfortable. You need to look at your diet.
So the first thing I did was think of it as a lifestyle choice. Not us,
short term thing, the second,
I did was pay attention to my food.
The third thing I did was set myself up for success. Now
The reason I thought of this idea for a podcast episode is because this week this weekend on Instagram, I was meal prepping, and
whenever a meal crap- and I think about it- I will do an answer story of what a meal prepping and when I
did. The Saturday.
Literally hundreds of you sent me notes and said: oh my gosh. I love when you mail Pratt. Think you some
for the ideas. I wish you do this more often
reminded me how much you guys were end to that idea when I was doing it so again,
I also feel that come in India or Pakistan to sit on how I feel proud and why I meal prep by here's the deal
asked if you wait until you are hungry to look for
something to eat you're in trouble, because
you are going to eat whatever you can find its way,
You know your mama and you wait,
The kids are fighting Yuvan, fed yourself and now you're starving and suddenly find yourself in the rest of their market. Cheese and half asleep of rights. Crackers M left over pop
Arts and all these things and you ve blown whatever
we're, trying to do for the day, because
you were hungry men
I say it over and over your home.
Is not a strategy.
You have to have a plan. You have to plan out your weak
the advance! That's why I'm real crap, I prep the snare. I said
healthy snacks for our family, I press
dinner's that I'm in a cook later in the week
As much as I can ready to go, so I take the guesswork out of it when I'm hungry, I'm in the EU,
The thing that I know is healthy for me in
stead of grabbing
ever is available, the other part of sense.
Yourself out for success guys,
I'll bring things into your house that you know you should not be eating period full stop.
A lot of times, like especially moms, do this, or maybe you have apart,
that he or she really wants. You know they wanted
we're TIA chaps? They want the part towards them.
At the cheese it I don't know about
you guys, maybe a great willpower, but for me, if I'm hungry,
we, and I see it. I'm gonna grab it
So the answer is, I just don't bring it in we definite
have snacks that are feel like treats for our kids, but that don't tempt me
so like, for instance, let's say pretzels pretzels dont really do anything for me. I don't praise them. I dont want them,
my kids feel like that's a chip so
I can have pretzels in the house. I could have room crackers
How soon can have some things that your light treats for them, but dont tempt me in any way. So dull,
by all of the junk and think that your magically going to develop some so
then like impulse control, if you ve never had it before hope is not a strategy. The other thing that
like is really helpful in terms of setting yourself up for success. I started doing
recently. Actually, as we were, and moving Europe
taxes, it has been, as you can imagine, really stressful. So in a moving a company and hiring new employment
is it an and moving houses and kids and all of the things has been very stressful and, as I mentioned earlier, I was,
and am still an emotional eater, and so, when I get real,
we stressed out the thing that I reach forest food- and I was really struggling with not do
now, as were here, and there
had this idea. If you ve heard we talk about a matter
patient before I start my day with a gratitude
meditation, I kind of think through the day and what I would like to achieve an ice.
Doing this with what I was going to eat and maybe the sands Little Kay
because I've never heard someone say this before so if I sound like a hippie, just go with it all, but in the morning
I think, to myself. Ok, what is my day look like what
By having for breakfast lunch and dinner. What am I having because
if I can visualize in my head or Canada, my green smoothly for breakfast and then,
be over by gosh, I wanna, be
whereby Bell Terror in the afternoon and there's a Jersey MIKE Stare, and I dont time to pack my lunch but I'll go to
He makes and I'll get like a salad tab and then,
for dinner, I've already pre prepped. You know that
casserole that has the chicken and the values for David
And then I can put it in a couple portable mushrooms for me, and I know what I'm gonna eat, so there's no guesswork so when it
to be time to eat something when I get
hungry. I know what my plan is. The other thing that I do. Oh my gosh, I could have done a pot guess, as I just saw MIKE
when are you day for food but the
Nothing I do is, I always have healthy snacks. Always always. Always,
in my car in the many ban in my purse and my backpack at my desk in a glove compartment like
beware that I might get hungry, I've always get healthy snacks.
If you have not listened to it, maybe like five or six episodes ago, I didn't
you were my nutritionist, an incredible nutritionist everybody loves,
Kelly, look back and she talked about
her books called body love. It absolutely shame
it was like the final step for me to go to get to us.
Two, it totally changed. My body is so easy to maintain reviewed
listen to that episode and you're interested at all in one hour
or how I e, or what healthy snacks actually are. I would love for you to go score back when this is done and listen to that one next, because she really gets end to healthy sack.
Options. I think one of the things that is so hard
to see with friends or family, or even
You guys are what other women at the girl.
She's door having gone through this journey now, what makes me cringe
say it don't say anything because it it. Even though
he's gonna sound of noxious, and I don't mean it too.
You know how to lose
when you know what to eat
and you see other people eating,
things that they think are healthy, they're, not even enjoying that they think that their healthy choices, but actually
It sabotaging any.
Hope they have a losing weight because its filled with sugar
things with sugar in them, oftentimes things that are fat free, there were placing it with sugar and sugar disguises itself in a bunch of different ways. It shows up on the back of a pat package as carbohydrates.
When you see carbs on the back of something you need to think of that a sugar. So
all of you who are,
having healthy sacks that are growing.
The bars power bars yogurt
gosh, you may get so many angry notes, Cooper and tell me I'm wrong and understand their different kinds of diet, but gauss.
This is why I'm talking to you, if you're killing it, he felt
rate about your body. Diesel super healthy. If you don't want to lose a single pound awesome, you keep doing exactly what you're doing, but for those of you here
listening who feel like you trying to eat healthy, and sometimes you just have a full breakdown crying, because your like I'm working out
I'm eating healthy foods. What is happening
I swear to you. This is my story,
The answer was, I was consuming so much,
sugar, and I did not know it. So my
he never had a chance to lose any of the fat inside of it because it was
Insulin to deal with all of the cards I was bringing in so sir,
I just went often tangent as per use, but if that sounds like you really want to encourage you to go. Listen to that past episode about how
and why I love what Kelly talks about so much in what she teaches the other.
Are there I mean I could honestly could do like twenty seven things on this. If you want more detail on all the things that I did to lose the way what I did
maintain the way or if you honestly just want to creep on pictures of me as a size. Fourteen then,
You can't go over to the blog, the Sheik site, dot com today, when this
I'd Castro's line. It will be the featured Astoria over on the homepage. You can go check it out and read all the things I dare to talk about. Finding
buddy I talk about and how I play.
Things out. I talk about my exercise regiment and what I did there there's a lot of really helpful information, but I just said I would
a broad overview and tell you tat,
you know haste as if this is u you
No yourself! You know, if you're being too hard on yourself, you know
oh, if you are,
beating yourself up.
Mentally because you
only thing that you know how to do.
Do. You want him saying like some of
judges abusing ourselves with horrible hateful words in our mind,
because that's the only thing we know how to do so
This is about self love, caring,
your body wanting to lose weight wanting to feel better is not a punishment for the things that you have done,
It is a celebration of this
absolute blessing that you have been given in your body
no matter where you are in your journey, no matter where you are with your health. I promise you that there were some one right now
in the world, praying for that
kind of blessing that you have with your body so soon
beating yourself up
Start celebrating what you have been given and take,
hear of it because it is,
the only body you are ever gonna have. I hope that this episode was helpful.
I hope that, even though it was done in the closet- and
and went off and some tangents it gave you a little bit more.

Ladies and gentlemen, did I mention I have a book coming out. Here's the thing it's called get out of your own way, a skeptics guide to growth and fulfillment and we're in the pre sale window of windows. I am super excited about having written a book for both men and women about
twenty lies that I once believe that were keeping me in my own way. I have written this from the perspective of someone that is
totally different from Rachel Hollis. Even if the format is somewhat similar to grow wash your face, I wrote it from the perspective of someone who's been skeptical of tools like this book or even the pot Castro listening to for ever and ever its through. That lends that I'm talking about the ways that I was getting in my own way and I think in uncovering the truth behind those lies. Not only did it help me get out of my own way to help you get out of Europe. There are two ways I want to say. Thank you for preparing this book. I have created an e course any course.
