Hey what's up as is critical about back with you again today, foresight, hustle school got a funny story today about a guy who has a sign hustle. I tell you all about how
The sun make an extra thousand dollars a week, putting out
for real estate agents and other customers. It may be
Think back to my days as a juvenile delinquency, it's not enough. I talked about a lot of the show, maybe once or twice
But when I was sixteen, I remember there was this local election. Where I lived there were so many political signs out on just about every corner. There would be multiple sites
and for some reason I don't know by now- but for some reason I thought I would be fine to collect the signs and other work
their borrower steal them. Depending on your definition, I also had a newspaper route which was convenient because for a couple,
Might I would drive around in another night delivering newspapers. Whenever I came across a big group of signs on a particular corner, I would grab a couple of them and put them in the trunk of my car,
we're out, took me three or four hours in the middle of the night, so I had quite a collection of signs and at first I was thinking what did I actually do with them, and then I remembered, oh, I went to my feet
House- and I put all the signs in his front yard so essentially signed the yard another's natural verb without or not, but that's basically what I did.
And I thought one of the largest you know to wake up in the morning. Look out and see like a hundred signs in your front yard unfortunate. These were the days before social media before everybody had a phone in their pocket,
so don't having great visual documentation of this. Also, I didn't know the night by
that memory when I was working on the story, I'm sure they're gonna tell you about today, would have hated me
four undoing all his work but fortune. I don't think we grew up in the same area software. That's all get with him and either way I'll tell you historic right after this today story comes from Nashville Tennessee, where Pierce Mars jumped at the opportunity of a very.
Low tech, low stress side Hassan about ten years ago, a friend from his church was looking for someone to set up signs and since Pierce it
people move furniture on more than one occasion he was the first person called and it wasn't just a favor. This was a paid gig. So, even though Pierce was already successful, it is day job in sales, since it was only a few hours per week and he said why not and decided to try out the already had a truck and a hammer which is pretty much all you need.
So with no additional costs other than his time, he brought in an extra five hundred dollars a month right off the bat he used the extra money to take it.
Wipe out to dinner more often and help out their son, who was in college. It turned into a real small business, and business grew steadily, mostly their word of mouth
p body to see him out putting up signs and asked for a contact information or get referred by an existing climb, Sunni, with placing signs for independent, real estate agents, real estate offices contractors and even fireworks stands
before the fourth of July anytime. You wanted to add to his client, lest he would go in person to introduce himself to the agents,
hosting model homes for a new development or to real estate offices.
He has never made a website or done any advertising. We made a couple of smart decisions about how it talks about the business and why potential client
need him early on. He research the effectiveness of these signs. He was placing, and he learned that over eighty percent of walk in business was generated by his type of signs to honour this key piece of information. He was able to talk confidently about his services. He focused on how a potential client investment was gonna pay off by way of new
in customers. He also invested some time in educating himself about local ordinances. Some of these
says, regulate when and where people can play signs so where he lives
For example, he only places signs after seven p m on Friday and picked them up.
Or seventy m on Monday morning. This make sure he never gets in trouble. His clients don't get in trouble and he shares this advice with his customers, but to make his life easier and to build trust with those people in the lead up to the real estate crash in two thousand eight.
The sign business was booming. He was making more than four thousand dollars a month on the side. Of course, there's time was pretty maxed out
he's the additional money to pay off debt and take a nice vacation once the real estate crash was over, the income went back down to about two thousand to two thousand dollars a month in two thousand twelve, his son graduated from college and want to help out with it
this, and by now the real estate market had come back the site,
I saw was in demand, appears added a ten foot trailer to his pickup truck to help all the signs when it
enjoying the business. He also brought with them new contacts and new accounts. Last year they placed around
Five hundred signs every weekend for an average of it,
and clients, which brought in fifty thousand
where's in total income for only five to ten hours of work each week, his son as a full partner in the business,
they spent all the labour and the profit so last year that each earned twenty five thousand dollars pierce.
Has his day, job in sales still does the sign business, of course, but he also has other side us now. He does voice over work. He does coaching hosts upon gassed and looking back, he credits. This first sign us all with giving in the confidence to try out these other ideas.
In addition to the awesome name sign us off. I really love is blue collar project. I use that term because in a story pierce and his son now
they're doing a fair amount of manual labor. So it's not an internet business racism
Computer all day, but he still been able to come
in it in a way towards not just a part time. Job like he's created real value in this he's got customers and clients who trust him, he's got repeat. Business he's got it down to
process and it's a very reliable, secure, insignificant, second source of income. So why not to love about that
Pierce. If I ever run into you, I should volunteer
Labour one weekend to go and help without signs were free to make up
What time long ago, when I borrow a number of signs to put in my friends, front yard, or maybe I'll just leave that to you, but I will say thanks for the memory status of school, this, as always, inspiration is good, but inspiration.
Action is so much better. There's a side hustle, maybe even sign us all waiting for you somewhere. I hope you do everything you can to find it to make it a reality.
Come say: hi iron, social media, I'm at critical about on Facebook or Twitter. I'm a hundred ninety three kind
raise one nine three countries on Instagram I'll, be back
then tomorrow and every day with a new story until then
wherever you are in the world. I wish you well.
