You you and I talked about the reporting in the new post, about Hunter Biden, that sort of said that they had committed to very convoluted story: that sort of article basically states that day Hunter Biden dropped off a laptop at retail shop to get it fixed in Delaware, and then this laptop falls into Rudy Julie on his hands and Giuliani fines on it. These photos of Hunter right in and sort of emails back and forth, and the post rights this story sort of intimating that Vice President Biden had a meeting with someone from the Ukraine that you know it's. It's basically an argument like its intended as an October surprise.
Postal ran it without the violence of the report on the lead rapporteur. It was not duplicated by other newspapers. You- and I talk about this. All the time like you show is be wary. If there's only one source of information and and multiple the other newspapers can't sort of authentic Kate that it's the right it's the real laptop and that the information being provided is is accurate. There are just a lotta tells in the in the report, and I think it was carried a lot on Fox NEWS, but it was pretty universally condemned by most journalists and if it, both Twitter, they spoke for slightly different reasons, refuse to really allow it to go out in the normal way that information would go out and sell you and I, and I think it's just saying initially had thought to not discuss it up until the point that there is more conversation about how it was being discredited because it just was it clear that it will
Is it just felt like a very problematic story with a lot of questions about you know whether it was real how the laptop got into Giuliani hands there? Some information about the FBI issuing subpoenas too that computer dealership to try to figure out whether you know this relates to russian disinformation campaign or even potentially relate to the hack of the very summer emails earlier in January. Of course, very similar was the company that Hunter Ride and sat on the border. So did I think it's it's worth talking about how how sort of this was intended as an October surprised that feels like its fallen very flat to me just the main features and contours of the story, plus the timing plus the protagonists, make it feel so absurd and once again, script.
is going off the deepened in getting way drunk when they were rowing. The final has heard of whatever Series hell series we happen to be living in the fact that two hundred widened the fact there were just days away from the ending of the election. The fact that its really Giuliani the fact that I think you did mention this yet Intelligence community has serious concerns that were equally on is a victim of a russian disinformation campaign and then all, of the journalistic sorted alarms that you discussed make this whole thing nuts now. Does that mean that things are impossible? I don't know, but we can't go into you know that, though the file fortnight of the election credulous again when in twenty sixteen, we had the same issue with last minute laptop. What was on it was it relevant, didn't have anything to do with. You know something that was important or not. I just want to focus and emphasise what you said about the reporting
What bizarre to me really Giuliani as someone who comes into this information somehow- and he has credibility problems to say the least. He basically says he took it to the post. He was saying either other outlets might vetted more. Maybe he was right have that you take it to the post and even the post the main report of wrote, the article blue scolding. I happen a nobler scolding using a pretty good reporter. He covered my office, so every press conference I ever did back in the time when I was the use attorney. He was there and he wrote the story on almost all the cases where many, the cases that we brought when I was in that position and he decided, such as that of the paper to decide not to police violence on the he did not put his violent in the article because he had issued with a story query. Why he's writing a story at the conclusion of which he so concerned about the reporting that he does want to put his name on, and I don't get that I've
at that too. But I haven't even argument on that, which is that I bet I bet that it came in as these things due to a newsroom and that he was assigned to run it down and see what he could find. And you know at the beginning, you're not clear what it is if it's real or nod- and you know key- probably someone who's felt like an and also we should note that in of the post is known for its sort of a more aggressive and salacious articles right like their willing to write things that, even when you know other newspapers might know the full details of something they don't always put out those things. If they don't feel like it before its or lower glass costs have lower remark. But, but I will say in this- goes to the question of how Twitter and in social media platforms handled it So it is, is considered a mainstream periodical. It's not it's not a fringe periodical. It is a tabloid. Some people say that the dealing uses also tabloid. and I know you, you can at the same time believe
that was shoddy reporting that this information is verified, that it should have seen the light of day, but that a blanket prohibition against the retweeting of an article that appears in something like in your post is itself dangerous and by the way, the wonder what the other thing it's fastened to me is that there are reports from media Eyed the Fox NEWS itself Was the first place, the Giuliani, shopped the story to, and they had enough concerns about the provenance of Olaf, up and everything else that they didn't run it, which is curious for a couple reasons. One afternoon post ran it Fox news. Commentators and hosts had no problem running with the story gap. Even though, if you please, They just one another were willing to me the primary source. They were willing to pay. You get. Yes, even people, no bread bear, you know, he's got a Fox news. Is top news anchors. He himself said, and I quote, let's let's say just not sugar coated. The whole thing is sketchy end quote
he said you couldn't write the script in nineteen days from an election, but we're Dignan. Where this computer is the emails in the authenticity of it. So, given the experience of twenty sixteen and and quite frankly, the experience of the whole every day, the last four years. People need to be very careful about jumping to conclusions on things without proper venom and this is definitely that's what I think it is an end. There's also, I mean I, I think that the journal, snapping wine is lucky Randy a weed and its clear that what he found he didn't think was sufficient to warrant publications. That says a lot right, and so it was clear that there are a lot of questions and I do think look. This is, it is a legitimate and it's an important thing for people to basically say to members of the media, like obviously you're, not gonna disclosure sources, but two choir, and particularly the journalists like we don't require we, they they lack journalist, protect sources but usually like the norm
and it's a really important norm, is that the journalists and the hour and the paper publishing it have spoken directly to sources. They have authentic hated it. They believed that the material wasn't from a hack compute. You know all these things, a sort of matter and and again and I think the fact that also julianne his own words of not wanting anybody to really vat it right. He just he just wants a body to take the stuff in and put it out, there's also something in the post article that should raise a lot of alarm for people which is there's this thing about an email that was allegedly sent to Hunter right. Right. So it's like, there's a it just. It's really really it's even sketchy the way it's written in part, and we should also note that the vice president's savagely said look. We checked his calendars. There was never a meeting so like what the article says like you know that, but that vice President Biden had set up a meeting in and there was no such meeting. So there are just huge reasons to question for acetate and I think like look. This is what Giuliani has been doing he's been out
You know Trump asked Russia TAT, you know hacked Hillary Clinton. Females, like Rudy Giuliani, has been out asking Russia for assistance with the election in appears and their questions about whether he's being used by russian intelligent sources that are being vetted. It's really serious staff, and so then, all of a sudden in October, we- this and I think there is a lot, a lot of of scepticism rightfully so fear. This is nothing to stop present from from bring it up and what may yet be a debate on Thursday yet look? They got what they wanted a bright too. We should also be clarified. that Giuliani and trunk out what they wanted in one sense, which is to your point, Fox NEWS can go out and talk about at some of the journalist wall, but a lot of them will basically sate. Looked at your post, publish this, it becomes alike, quote legitimate new source, close quote for them too. To sort of to use can I can? I read you something that I read that I thought was very interesting on thee
different take on the Hunter Biden. Thing is written by Sean Mcgaughey issues actually generally in your times writer, but was writing for grading Carter. Has a publication called Airmail Mcleish rights? The title is New York's hottest, a girl Hunter Biden, and the quote is this: was the weak hunter officially became the full on terra? Read of in politics and the whipper snapper. As you run, your favorite magazines nearly all Disillusioned die hard, Bernie Sanders supporters at last found something too like about lame old Joe, namely his son. So I think some pretty classic quotes and there the new Yorkers Naomi FRY tweeted get Hunter and the White House. The president, having a hot troubled son, is a net positive in my book. So I think there's been a lot of sort of backing words the article I sort of wondered what impact it will have. I think I think it ten impact from space. Obviously, at a signal
section of the population, but I think it's largely been discounted by the wide stream media and if anything, it's come to the point where I'm reading sort of the funny or parts of them accretion article. But his point is that hunters relate above that you know him suffering from from drugs. gin and having had a troubled pass in some ways, makes him more sympathetic in some ways to young people and not just him, but also his father, you some of the messages of through accurate or not Between Joe Biden, son include Joe Biden waking up first thing in the morning instead of tweeting. Some nonsense, like the President president, does addresses Hunter. As you know, my beautiful son good morning, my beautiful sun and people like how is that something bad it's showing parent who has unconditional love for his son, having lost as other son just in recent years. So I'm not sure what the strategy is here with respect to some of this, on top of sketches of the whole thing
create the m. The airmail publication is not the only one that was that there's a little bit of humor around related to the Hunter Biden story last Thursday, Twitter, basically, that you know that you are posted, published a hundred I hope you enjoy the several of the cafe insider podcast to listen to the full episodes had to cap it all calm, slash insider and try out the membership free for two weeks, interested students with a to you email get had to cafe dot com, slash student
