is a brain scientist neuroscientist and,
Does amazing research on brain foods and the differences between female brains and male brains, and we're talking a little bit before about why these brains are different. How can you first explain how they're different and do certain foods affect the brains differently for men and women
It's a really good question and yes, I can definitely speak to women's brains and how they are and they're not different from men's brains. I think that everybody has their own opinions and how women brains are different from men's brains.
There's. Certainly I get asked a lot of mars and venus type questions and barbie and lego,
and that's not my field of expertise, an expert yeah yeah. No, I know I'm not a psychologist or ssc all ages, but then my background is in is in biology. These are like neuroscience biology,
seeing your physiology, so we look at actual real road differences between.
the brain and the male brain, and I think I did it
anatomical in a way, it's not like men's brains are lacking some parts that women.
As have the other way around?
differences are more functional and they're quite evident from the very moment of conception.
This is because we have different dna is in part. Three women have to ex chromosomes in men, have an x and the Y chromosome in that matters, even though they are not such huge differences, but the axe chromosomes
as almost a thousand genes more than the Y chromosome.
So from the moment we are born when we have almost a thousand genes more them
many of which are really important for brain function, no just for reproduction, but also for brain.
That mean what does that mean what women have a thousand genes?
more and more than men? What does that mean when an inch genes
What what genes are worked out of what is needed is a way that this matter is the main. There
I need more
nutrients to to to to burn calories,
he's. Does it mean they have more functionalities? Thinking a memory like what does it actually mean they had
that's right, defending it
This thing right yet again, the point is tat. The products of the genes differ and had won a product.
is any media. The river, your dna,
except in the very moment they were born starting with reading, and then the baby's developing on the floor, birth or brains are becoming wired a little bit differently and that's really hormonally based so women's brains produce more estrogen like easter, diy and progesterone, and boys brains make more androgens like to stop thrown in this hormones that are really really important, because they're not just involved in reproduction and having children, but they're, really incredibly important for them.
Brain functionality these these hormones? You need to think about this harness and having having superpowers now just in the body, but also in the brain in that so estrogen for context or estrada iowa, which is the most potent form of estrogen, is incredibly important for immune. When you see it,
It boosts the immune system in the body and the brain for plasticity esteem.
the formation of new runs in synopsis in the brain, so it gives you receive funds, should a brain so and also, most importantly, its key for energy production,
In the brain, so at the cellular level, estrogen leisurely pushes your neurons to burn. Glucose is sugar, which brings me to your next question next question: to make energy into stasis. It does the same thing in men's brains and boys' brains. The difference, though
Is that these hormones different, they learn Geraghty in their lifespan, so to start to run an andrew johnson genera decline.
Fairly gradually over time, which is wonderful,
so many manistee of free dial in the seventies or eighties, which is, is crazy.
Yeah? I think Mick Jagger,
You must be ready to just have a kid now
not uncommon, as is fairly norma and is great, and that means that this distrusted, this andrew genes are also supporting your brain
same time, but for the women estrogens, literally decline that is fast amid life during menopause, which is something that impacts your body. Your overall functionality of your body and also your brain is
in that dictates why women's brains need a different kind of care. The man's brains is knox super different, but there are some things, some nuances that I think it is worth really focusing on, because we have different needs and different strengths and different risks and that release
frightened for hand what an order them. What are the male brains, really need for brain health and optimization, and what are the women's brains need for optimism for their lives,
the research. What are the? What are the? What are the same things they need and when then, what are the different things I think? Well, I think there is a lot of
research, showing that things like a healthy diet, solid exercise, routine enough sleep, low stress, stress, reduction, avoiding toxins. These are all things that work really well for both men and women.
But then there are things within lean discarded that are more specifically how for two men or women, for example, diet?
I think we're all aware. The diet is incredibly important for health for health and we all eat pretty much
eight times a day. If you are fasting later
Perhaps it will be the least twice a day, but you see broadway six times a day, so I will say most people eat about three times right.
The every day we have a lease three chances to make the right choice in feed their body and brain with right nutrients, really support the aim of health and has the seller function
or not really damage or body in their brain. At the same time now within a healthy eating pilar- and there is some evidence that women really benefit from plan
a diet, perhaps even more so the men do, which is not to say that
It should not be using plant based or enough ledges and fruit it just the debris. Such points to plant based nutrients is being especially supportive of women's brain health.
Specialists are any midlife and that's what a variety of reasons that we have to share a few commander thumb
There's a lot of research, including my own research, where we do brain scans.
specialized specialize. I specialize in women's brains, because that's what I've been doing for twenty years ever since they could and
with caution at about it? And just recently I launched the women's brain initiative: a wife could not medicine in new york city, I'm the founder, yeah ended up
which means I have to find all the support of the finding it or not
Still it worth it and we re
trying to fight to better understand how brain health plays out differently in women than in men
The way we do, that is between brain scans and measuring a number of things, including behaviour committee performance, but also we do a diet questionnaires. We do exercise questioners in the first months who look at intellectual activity with it will cost
leap with a stress we measure, a lot of parameters implies MA
we might have everything was impossible measure without stressing our participants too much, but then it turns out back to the super strong correlation between antioxidant in take em brain energy levels for women.
for women. Yes for women, especially whereas for both women and men, consumption of pollen, saturated fatty acids, since to be incredibly important, so fat for men also because the stuff
that is a horseman then makes
men, really incredibly great burning fat but has asked to Jane, is a cop, love and hormone.
The women S, hearing better a burning carbohydrates than fact we tend to accumulate the fat for sure hold onto it, whereas the average woman is excellent. Physiologically burning cards in that might dictate
why some very high fat diets work really really well for men and not always so well for women,
and the other way around a man who are incredibly on vegan diet for sure and
if it truly hate them and-
that they need their meeting. I think diet is very personal, but on average
Antioxidants are good for your brain in part, because the brain is a must.
metabolic and the active organ of the entire body,
and you run some glucose light of people might disagree but
It is true that mean the brain is literally wire to run on glucose,
because metabolism creates free radicals and oxidative stress
So the only way they will, we have to reduce oxidation, which is damaging to the brain in the long term, is to our our intake of antioxidants from diet and plan said the best way to do so. If you could recommend five foods that are the most powerful antioxidant foods that we should consuming on a consistent basis. What would you say
is this main food. I got set. We coffee, I love

I got the first coffee coffee, yes, so double espresso.

Are you just speak right line
So this asylum- this is real science. Was it isn't that trust I felt so what a number of scientists have done is to rate all sorts of foods based on their or a number, which is an anti is a measure of Antioch to end capacity and a double its press. It really comes up, and
What okay, coffee yeah, that's rich in antioxidants, point of fairness in on hydrodynamic acids. For for that matter, it's a really strong plant based antioxidants, so they're very protective and really support your health over

if you're going to get a coffee, do the light, roast coffee or a double shot of explaining that? Yes, but no more than that, this later
Otherwise your gains go down.
One cup of coffee or two shots of espresso yeah penalized

He asked. Are you asked? Should you should not be taken coffee eyes? Neither is about being a waiter what you're doing so when you estralla your levels and very high, which is, in the first sight the first half of yours. I call you respond to cafe in in a much more sensitive way, but you response in the second half of your month after month is actually blunted. So you may end up thinking. Oh my goodness, discoveries doing nothing for me in just string. Tat cuts
just a year budget. One respond. So in the second half of the monetary. You fear, because yesterday is down in the progress that is up, so should you not everything?
There's a woman and a sort of drink aids is done over because you feel tired than you're like coffee is doing nothing for me. I'm gonna have to drink tank cops, you want it. I think it makes sense to its you. Probably the need that much at the beginning of the first half of the month, and then you might need a little more and to get the same effect, but you dont, want to avoid
because the tamasha, so what are the other? What other foods would you say are high in antioxidants that both men and women should be eating berries? Everybody talks about berries, I don't eat berries ever do that free I'd, I'd, never eat paris, I don't like them. They just don't like the taste of none.
Never again, I don't eat berries, I don't eat fruit, except for bananas and apples.
Hi lots of vegetables. We lots of heads the boss,
but I'm sure I dont have a range of my diet of probably all these foods that you're to be talking about that are beneficial. So what it worked.
If we don't eat berries, what supplements or other foods should we be eating to support us that say.
I didn't the kind of girl
it is really helpful. Is lemon lemon juice? Really, yes- and this is interesting as a scientist- I'm always emily- of the sensitive about fads or trends.
We have to go, but hot was you will lemon first thing in the morning? That's actually scientifically proven to make sense
yes, sir lemon
I hope, go say if you drink hot water with them. First thing: in the morning it kick starts
this is a really nice way to settle, really supports elimination, because seasick asset from lemon is one of the best laxity on earth s. Drawing me makes it goes it about him. It's a thing in hot water is so hot water is a basic dilated, whereas cold war,
recent visa constrictor they so they saw a day later. It makes him veins pop, whereas cold water makes your veins collapse. What do we want? We want.
applying I'm assuming you're intervenes to park.
Patricia cold water or cold drinks, then well, it depends on what you are trying to do you. I think you want to drink or whether to cool down, but it would be better throughout today.
to drink water, room temperature or in the morning. You wanted to be warm because your dehydrated friendly nighttime that you haven't been drinking and you want to bother to really absorbed deal actualized, that in the water and the secret ass, if from the lemon or sir, because your master said rely relaxing because you drink a hot water
also supports a healthy elimination. So it is true that hot weather in Atlanta makes you go.
Does it sound strategy so via lukewarm or room temperature or warm water? Does it hydrate you more than a cold water? That's right! It hides rates, you more hydrates him
so so pregnant breastfeeding women and pregnant women would benefit from drinking a lot of want water, hot water, because it really helps keepin hydrate
it it's really important that we do a brain scan. I do brain scans, that's my background and I strongly recommend to all their patients to drink a cup of warm water, hot water. Right before we put the ivy
was right before the blood draw, because it really have some veins pop up in that is so much better. So much is it to get the line and that's the thing you needed sign of dehydration
and the problem in the united states that so many people are chronically dehydrated.
in a clinical. Where do you end up at the hospital?
It is my the hydrogen, which is a real problem in it
really impact your brain, so even if two to four percent water loss, which is nothing
can cause neurological symptoms of dehydration from brain fog, which is something that everybody suffers from re brain
forget it is one of the reasons that most people come to work with eyes because they feel of fog.
and and trying to find solutions until they hit a glass of water
That really is so brain fog, meaning for getting things not having clear memory, not sure what they want to hear tat yet
This feeling, like your brain, is not following
cleaner, yes,
The main causes of brain fog is that dehydration,
is that nutrition. Is that sleep
There are a number of factors. I think you is different for different people, but
hydration is, is a very common factor that you can't reverse by just drinking water and also purify water doesn't help it needs to be water
electrolytes in his voice. It is not just fluid your brain doesn't just need something wet. It rained needs the fluids
the electrolytes, the real water constraints.
ten glasses of water a day isn't enough to be
It gives the impression I get it yeah your blood pressure goes up, but you're, not hydrate. You need
The electrolytes
some things are inevitable like allergy season, but while you can't avoid it, you can at least save on your prescription allergy medications by checking good goodrx with good goodrx. You can compare prescription prices at over seventy thousand pharmacies to help you find the best price and you can find discounts of up to eighty percent good rx, as recommended by doctors, pharmacists and millions of people across
country who have saved on their prescriptions speaking of millions of people over twenty, four million used good our ex just last year to save on their medications, and you can to whether that's on your algae, man's or other prescriptions actually have a team member who is prescribed a brand name medication, but her insurance would only cover the generic brand and she has had side effects with a generic brand. So she was forced to pay out of pocket for the brand name with good our acts she
been able to save a lot of money on her meds for simple smart savings on your proscriptions check. Good our acts, good a good hour ex dot com, slash greatness again, good are ex dot com. Slash greatness
we got. Our exes is not insurance, but it can be used instead of insurance, medicare and medicaid. In two thousand and twenty one good rx users saved eighty one percent or retail, prescription prices,
So how do you I mean?
how do you get electrolytes? No, are you adelaide? What if you don't have packets of electoral?
to add in there. How are you
supposed to hydrate. If you don't have access to that,
How do you get rid of water tap water
I have where you are in new york, yeah I've heard the top water is got so many chemical
and filtered that is, then it appears that they're ok. This is why they learn because they care about voices so much in those. So it just saints print walsh doesn't cost any more than she would fight wars. You're just you're, buying to a different voice remains the vice principal spring waters, better, yes
Well, contents, the electrolyte, okay, hmm, but what I learned is that you can call the cc and they can come to your house and do onions.
Yeah and they you a very decent report?
latin. You know what kind of water you get from this pc in the condition of your own pipes in the house, Manca the flute report and you can buy a filter that really addresses your ones to see. If it meets of your. How was your filter on your top water yeah sure that it's right and truthful to them, and sometimes they just need a very simple few throws. Sometimes you may need a much more powerful one. It depends on where you live in los angeles and thank you you're probably gonna get it.
I mean yeah, I think you're. I think people are just so afraid of tap water because they hear the stories of how all these chemicals are. All this, you know feast
this matter or whatever it is like MIKE, had fasting and all the plastics are in there. But
makes sense to say, okay well, why don't you test? It? Have someone from the city common test it and make sure that it is safe. They can give you a full report, I'm assuming based on what you're saying and then you can add a filter as needed and and retested with the filter. If you want to make sure you're one hundred percents
But, as you know there, if you're just drinking out of a thin plastic bottle, there's that's probably seeping in some plastic and some some contamination as well. So it's like you gotta to you to test all these things, but
it shows that were explicitly one and it is important to really drink your voice. It is incredibly important with electric lights, with a large like tat, so
for me, the major reason to drink water. It's done. Nothing can happen inside your brain unless there's water
was it literally parlors. Every single can could reaction that take place inside the brain, including energy production.
no water, no energy
brain fog. You're not going to remember things for an asbestos bent. You know as well as you can.
How does that clinical studies they showed they had randomize people into before? Taking a test right to groups of people about to take a task in this group is given water like a foot gas at watering. This group is not the group that just drank a glass of water before taking the test twenty percent by the reaction times, fourteen fifteen percent,
it mainly performance in the only thing that was different- was literally that they were hydrated. No, it's not huge fifteen percent. It's not like one hundred percent, but still
if you can improve your reaction times by twenty percent, but just drinking water were not so drinking.
room temperature, water, drinking,
say dehydrated feel like you did. You know
little trick. That is really really helpful. If you
sure. If you're dehydrated or not what you want,
is feel a war like a bottle weed
warm water and takes more steps once every thirty seconds, just a tiny step, a tiny, tiny sip. It's annoying by this.
Like five six minutes, you really want the water, it means,
I thought you just didn't know about it. You just had to be careful
You shouldn't your eye.
The hydrating right caffeine is dehydrating. Yes, caffeine, caffeine. You need to make sure you drink water, afterwards, right
which is why you go to a fancy, restaurant and they bring you. Your little extra is pressing where a glass of water water spring was
As for european water, yes, water, so
If you have an espresso, if you have coffee, you must drink water with it before or after does it matter after
Before I don't know, I mean how long does it take to drink the coffee? It doesn't matter the way.
Gotcha yeah. What are the,
What are foods that can enhance the performance of our brain functionality?
many foods that are really some foods. Some new trends, especially really important, and I think a mega threes are really crucial for brain held for a really long time. People really scared of eating fat, and now we come to understand the fact is not just fact, but different fats have very different functions in the body and polly and saturated fatty acids, including a mega three and a mega seeks a mega nines, a really important for brain housed in in a specific ratio seal is it's a tutor, want gracious or to molecules over mega six for everyone molecule over mega three. But the point is Dan, depending on the circumstances,
Omega six facts are more pro inflammatory would, as the mega three is, that anti inflammatory in the standard american diet really favors the pro inflammatory types of fat. So it's helpful to keep him
Do we really need to increase in take of america's freeze and that's easy to do, for people who eat fish, for example, fishes?
and six hundred source of or so amanda, but then that had a lot of plant based sources as well liked.
so I'm plant based and I discovered flaxseed oil- it's right there.
of course yeah. Oh good, okay, here nobody knows what it is yet. Flax seeds are the oil, the oil so not flaxseeds.
Oil is more concentrated. Okay right, so one tablespoon of flax seed oil contains almost seven grams of a
Lie which is basically audio manga threes. You mean ready for your brain down software to be such, although
I think what you really want to maximize the hiv, which is a different form of america. Trees in your brain, is to convert the ale aid into the hiv in part to the fact is lost in the process.
so you might want to have a little bit more like. I was short for, like maybe eight thousand nine hundred and ten drums today,.
The ultimate drain, how I've I take some deejay supplements now, what's the what's the difference between the power of foods that hat contains nutrients versus the power of the oil is contract, or else the country's supplements that we take is their difference. Should we be adding some attention to our food
have access to these foods. What's your thoughts have a liar sites. I sit
sir I'm part of the global council in brain how's. That is asked,
the a p and we're over three and thirty six scientists who have done a lot of research on this topic and we were asked about sub
and you should have seen unbelievable, even even among scientists that people really split up into groups that useless super helpful, independent
He says he was very, very interesting. They scientists who read books
yeah science books and scientists who do not-
and it was really interesting how the engine
standing of what people actually do in real life, with with quite different
So I think the over on sunset
Scientists have a different point. The scientists have a different point of view. It doesn't sound like there's a consensual lies that supplementary consensus reached at the end, but I think it is really interesting how there are scientists were just pure academics at dawn. I used to be one
Donald Don applied in there. Yes, yeah it's middle, so I think it's important for scientists to know what people actually doing could real. Like what kind of supplements do people take, what kind of supplements to people looking for
Why are doing that? Whether their claims have be made, or they claim to be at least stick? And so we, we went through a whole list of supplements and whatnot, and the consensus is that if you have a deficiency or if your diet is really low in certain nutrients, that you cannot obtain from your diet, then supplementation has value but supplements do not replace foods. So what you want to do is always try to improve your diet so that your diet can supply all the nutrients that your body needs, and that is particularly important for antioxidants, which I was telling you before they're just so important for brain energy levels and foot protection against aging. There's, there's a ton of research showing that antioxidant supplements are taking vitamins,
sea watch me nae. Watch me eat from a supplement is not nearly as helpful as getting the same exact nutrients from foods in park is that I would like to mean e with a vitamin d, but it's actually a different either forms at alpha, two cost
embarrassed again, my dallas in from sub
Many more often than not, you get the alpha type unless you go through mixed, took off from companies, whereas food
typically contain more than one form in every other form has slightly different design
in your body in your brain, thus unable trials just keep failing agreement,
Exactly a strange, we know from observation of studies. The people who consume a certain, not a certain amount of anti oxidants, are protected, cognitive, the against dementia guest, aging or not, and then clinical trials try to replicate tat. Indeed, just never find than a fact.
its interests. Some hang. You say that food is number one if you're unable to get certain nutrients from specific foods than seldom attention definitely supports, but it does not replace. I guess
so it actually adds value. It improves it'll, help you, but it's not going to be the best
No, yes, and thus, I think, sometimes supplements are used to lead a bit like an excuse like
I'm worried. All the pizza can be and sweets, and then I take my long predominant fishing submarines. Law have other nutrients. I need at eight saving
Now you is it further if taken in the context of a healthy, well balanced diet
many depends in Arusha vigo, vegetarian. You might be deficient in some nutrients the same way as as a

yes, so my mom is a very strict vegetarian.
And when I moved to new york

It's bizarre, but I remain based. I think it was more like an eighty, twenty twenty percent, more fish eggs, dairy, I'm, not a big meat person. I've never been, but now I think, I'm ninety nine point nine percent plant based- and it's been a while, though, when you've learned, you know the more you've studied brain foods and the functionality of optimizing, your brain and you know living longer and having the function of your brain use. What have you? What would you shy away from? What would you say you know what that's probably the worst thing for your brain: to have functionality and to to to function longer and live longer with your brain health? What are the the main foods you would
absolutely never touch you never give your family or kids cause? You just feel like it's very harmful processed meats and processed foods, and now we don't eat, I don't eat processed foods. I really try to stick to whole foods.

industrialized countries in general experience very experienced higher rate

more women than men to fate more crap.
Why is that people don't realize is that almost two thirds of all a famous patients are women.
for every man suffering from alzheimer's or two women
and that's one of the reasons that I started looking into alzheimer's says that I have a family history of us I mean. Is that really affects the women in my?

for a really long time. Most people understood alzheimer's disease,
as some kind of inevitable consequence of aging or bad gene
dna, but we now understand that no more than two percent of all that time cases are genetically inherited inherited.
It must have believed to have five people in your family. Have it and you still have a two percent chance of getting it from them?
The gene is that right, this isn't the whole population. I think it is five people in your family.
Is it you want to get test them tonight now. Is it? Is it because of the diet? Saving eating is the reason why the
and yet or is it going to get it no matter what well so the two percent of the population is genetic.
Naturally, the torment for ninety eight percent of the population is multi factoid. So there are a number of factors that really matter, including your jacket background, not in a closet

I think there are some genes that negatively impact brain health and genes that are protective. So it's a combination of things, but then medical history, supremely important lifestyle,

For example, for some women we have a lot of patients who come to us. They learn so much more about their brains in their read the risk factors and then some women with start taking hormones for minor replacement there,
It's really case by case.
some women swear by it. Some women swear at it,

It would do wonderfully well with animal fat and some men who don't but on average I think and men's metabolism supports fat breakdown in a way that is more efficient. The women's bodies and is this is research I mean there's a lot of research on that is in part to the whore

you want to eat them in and then there is the stiff and die it's out there, but I think the sluggish whole foods are really the focus of the diet. I think that is the most important thing. Don't stay
way from processed foods, there's just so much research showing that on these different chemicals do their part of the foods it used to be trans and saturated, a transitory defiance, but now there's all sorts of guns and more

This, and this is fascinating, stuff. So yeah but don't say you know one another reason and then keep going back to women until you hit that were made, but due to their studies with hundreds of thousands of people showing that diets high in processed foods really are strongly associated with a higher risk of cancer, whereas diets that are high in whole foods in minimally processed foods, especially veggies and fruit and whole grains and gums, are associated with a much lower risk of cancer. Especially women like breast cancer after menopause is much lower for women who eat healthy, whole foods and all say especially using legumes and fish is associated with a later onset of menopause and better hormonal health eating and fish.

average age of menopause, the median age
Menopause is fifty two in the union
states,
The latest you can go for
these women are poisons that I'm fifty eight in the united states, the earliest. You can go through many places in your thirties. What happened and stuff like that educate me? What happens when you go through menopause? What happens
female body to the brain, the dna, what is happening
I know you ask well a lot of things are happening, so it depends. There are different reasons to go through menopause for most women you go through menopause spontaneously.
And the age is impart genetic genetically related in part. It really depends on your lifestyle, so
Many women is important to ask your mom
How what was your mother when she won t remain opposed, because there is a strong link and that my mom went remain a pause in her late fifty, so I'm, hopefully, all sir target in late fifties how
If I have a lot more, my stress than my mom used to have and that's one factor that may accelerate the onset. The menopause smoking
Is the number one risk factor for early menopause? What about what about
it about studies of smoking vaping as vaping affected as well. I don't think so
I don't know I'm not sure that there is real.
search. Trombetta. I look it up. I don't know, but smoking is the number one risk factor for early menopause in women who are not genetically wired to go through menopause early.
And then lifestyle seems to be really really a huge, either protective factor or damaging factor. For so many women in some women go through manner, pause earlier than the voice spontaneously because a magical interventions- and this is something that we don't talk about enough at all, but one in every nine american women
gets a hysterectomy warrant for act to me, which is the surgical removal of the EU. There is all the more
For a number of reasons, however, that preceded it, you basically goes from an opposed, basically overnight. The video. Yes, yes, because you're over here
removed? If only you, there is a rule that can steal negatively impact blood flow to the over its and can also lead to early surgically induced menopause wishes. We don't talk about enough, and especially we don't talk about the fact that those procedures effect
A brain did not know they know they know, there's something wrong with your brain, but this is something that also impacts. Your brain
and we know from a number of studies that women fool receive
he struck me more so in fact to me- have a higher risk of alzheimer's disease as computer
two women who go through menopause spontaneously is not causative is a correlation, so getting
the over is removed, who perhaps that you'd
Islam is associated with a higher risk. So if you, if you can prevent getting one of those surgeries, are getting those removed, try not
Two is what I'm hearing you say. Well, yeah, it depends there are. There is some
situations where surgery is, is a lifesaver, of course in
in cases, though, I wonder because
the main reason for the hysterectomy is having fibroids not hurt
there's, just no sugar code in that, but they wonder if we had more of a conversation round, the link between the reproductive system and the brain, a wandering surgeons and doctors would be able to come up with different solutions rather than
I'm just going to take out the you. Are there it's just a start to just get rid of it, and also for so many women to question. Did they just ask you? Do you want to have kids? Do you have enough kids
pointing planning to have more no than they just just remove the ovaries as well, because it's a cleaner surgery.
It makes sense if you're just thinking reproduction, but the point.
that we're not think in brain but were not looking and one man,
in Oregon, he is and where the brain sticks to the ovaries and the users in your reproductive system and gets feedback from it and the health of your reproductive system, integrity or death system is important to the functioning.
I'll get a brain, so there's no way around it obviously set some women
The surgeon- I am not saying that we should decline, is procedures without saying, as they lose should find ways to protect our brains, especially
For women who goes to men are poised because my reply precede because I was
during an interview with Andrew huber meant the nourishment us out of you can answer it and he was mentioning briefly. I will think we went into them much that that an orgasm happens and rain
connected down the spine and your brain. Has I guess I don't what they're called a little synapse or something that's,
all the way down into your
sexual organs, and so, if you're, removing a sexual, the uterus or something from the female body. That's connected to the brain right, that's right!
exactly right, so there must be so if you're, essentially, there's a pathway that there's a pipe that is going through your body and then you cut the pipe in half and remove something it's not able to flow back and forth from the sexual organ to the brain. As nat
I'm assuming, and so what does that do to the brain by
menopause early, you know how long does it take and what does that mean until you can truly balance out brain functionality? What do women typically go through mentally
physically well, I wish that we had more research on that. So that could answer your question in greater detail.
we. We have been looking into that we're, starting now to with we're trying to do brain scans. Prior before and after the priest,
in to really understand what's happening and what the long term effects are. What we know
For sure is that the offence of surgical men are poised on the brain are more acute, then the effects are not true. Whispered, Hannah's monopolies, because when you go through not spontaneous, is a better word spontaneous
pause it takes years for some women takes a couple of years, for some women can take fifteen years
so the brain has a chance to adjust gradually if you're plunged into men applies the paramount and poise so quickly.
Cons is a shock at your brain needs, and this is just a figure of speech were to be. Your brain is to adjust much faster n
jack Hayes the one and replacement therapy is indicated.
I shall remain if you, if you're getting these procedures before manner poise, then it is helpful
for many women to to go there.
If european route- and this is a conversation than is to be the needs to happen with the doktor beef- is
hence on why you had this:
did you read if it were talking about cancer, then that may not be a good option by
other options for sure and it's it's really important to explore down and I have to say
did the more I talk about this.
the more feedback I receive from men. Are poised specialists,
and obituary and doctors and surgeons.
I really honestly don't know about that. Yeah brain people do
I'll bet? You an do not angry about that
studying the brenner studying doing
part of the body armor. Does the drive me crazy about western manderson? Is that were so train to just look at one thing at a time I did your brain person
Look at the brain. You know nothing about monopolised. I had to really gets, might really fast about that
And, if you don't know about you, when autumn monopolised specialist, you dont really not much about break. You know about brain function, but not in detail by you, Joe
we have voted to come we're very vertical in knowledge, and they think that
a more horizontal approach is also needed.
and what you need to go further, because first said that
you can go horizontally really and the person in front of you I'm curious. I've got a few final questions for you, but I'm curious about the correlation between our brains and mental health disorders. Mental health is a big topic, especially in the us right now, and a lot of people saying that they're going through depression or having mental health disorders or mental health challenges and diseases depressions in in mental health. How much of that is associated with the foods we eat? Obviously the environment, the stress sleep, I'm a huge proponent, I believe, with all those things will support the way you think the self talk you know the healthy relationships you're in or lack of healthy relationships, all affected,
or health as well. But how much have you noticed? Food has a direct impact on depression in zaire he or mental health disease. There is this the strong evidence that food has a strong impact on mental health and desert there's a whole field. It is growing, is gonna traditional psychiatry, dvd
looks at. Is it started many years ago at harvard where I just
There are a lot of teams that started looking into that and how specific foods literally support
patient, neuro, transmitters in the brain by, for example, pseudo torn in, is an order transmitted. Is it not a chemical that is really important for happiness and sleep and appetite
And is there not a transmitter that is deficient in away in depression? In many patients with depression said the drugs there we have ten
to improve the action of serotonin and is a very strong association between certain foods,
actually in amino acid is got shipped to faint and production of Sarah. Turning because the brain takes trip to feign in washington basics and transforms that into a serious warning.
I had the brain, so you need to have this essential amino acid in your in your diet, and chocolate is a good source by the way
And so are a number of plant based foods, including bananas, and
That's really important in the other trick is their consuming carbohydrates, together with a trip to faint source, really helps because trip to faint usually takes a back seat to other amino acids. They compete for entry inside the brain, but first
Maybe some magical reasons: if you have a little bit carbs together with your trip to find tat, pushes the trip to feign inside your brain so did do you have,
growing up as a kid
my mom for forget,
milk that warrant milk with honey
one time I used to have. I got tall glass of milk before bed every night now with honeyed up, but just I would drink milk all day, whole milk,
and I think it's what made me grow so tall, but it also
I was always saying that stuffy nose. I was always feeling tired like when I was working out in practice or in sports. I always felt like I was just like my body was drained eight and I felt kind of lethargic because I was drinking so much milk, probably
I mean gallon gallons a week I mean I used to this is when I was in middle school. I went to a private boarding school and I lived in a dorm with an all boys dorm and there was a milk dispenser in our dorm like the five gallon kind of commercial grade milk dispensers from a cafeteria, I literally had them move it in my room.
the five gallons of milk that I was drinking most of it other boys in the dorm- would come in and drink it as well, but I was probably consuming a couple of gallons a week, I'm assuming ryan just
breaking it like it was water just drew this drink drew drink. Here I don't know what that did. For me,
negative effects long term, but I don't drink any more milk. Now I can only not based milks. I have now been trends in feeling, I'm a
Big fan of macadamia nut milk
oh milk, but it's got a lot of calories in there and sugar. It tastes sweet, but I feel like I'm drinking too much almond milk and I feel, like it's affected me in a negative way. So I try to pull back on the all the milk, because I just started drinking all almond milk and the yeah. So it's trying to have that balance yet
christ is really gain. If you tried the brand and first job, I don't want the amendment. Was it ok, I'm Hearst John. I gotta come by
fridge someday? I just read history like the door. Did you tell us what we saw the dried berries
To answer your question, I think you just
I did a great example of how we perhaps too much something consider healthy, can negatively impact here, your performance in your mood
for it right like we know that so many foods have a strong effect. A mood
We all know that in twitter, with your tighter drink, a cup of coffee, you're, you're, sad you have
ice cream or a piece of chocolate,
and that,
three late, because we all intuitively now the sun foods have an impact on our mental state
yeah, the reason being that the nutrients in in the foods really do have an effect on the chemistry of the brain,
Which I find very beautiful in some ways: re anywhere it with the cold out in this marketing experience, where we're going
do american users rather than people who really appreciate the food and understand it and there's a disconnect
when the way the food is grown and what kind of uses and benefits it can really get from certain foods and what ends up being in your fridge, but on your plate,
but I also think they were going back to the roots
add more and more people are really interested,
in learning what kind of functions different foods can have and how to use them for the best yeah?
Are you gonna get down about? I love it here this
fascinating. I could dive into the stuff more and more, and hopefully we do more stuff in the future. But I want people to get your your books, brain food, the surprising signs of eating for cognitive power. If you just want to learn about the foods to optimize your brain in general and the all seven new book called the annex x, brain, which is the groundbreaking science empowering women to maximize hog and of health and prevent also
where's disease, with forward by my my dear friend, Maria shriver, on those well and in law? These amazing she's been a big you not champion of this. Obviously, this disease in preventing and helping to overcome this for many years for for all human beings has been inspiring to see her mission on this, but about these books I recommend and uganda their bodied mark hymen,
in the cover of this book here are lots of great research, lots of great science lots of recipes in here as well for things you can do for your brain health and optimization. So I highly recommend getting both of these I'm gonna get this want the exact brain. I'm gonna give it from my mom who is about to turn seventy this year. I think

We look at inflammation. We look at things like if you have any glee, always is any signs of an inflammatory presence.

amazing. Well, I've got a. I got a couple final questions that I ask everyone on the show, and this has been powerful. These are so I appreciate you opening up and sharing your your years of experience and wisdom on this, I think, can be really helpful for a lot of people. This is a question. I ask everyone at the end called the three truths so I'd like you to imagine a hypothetical situation where it's the end of your life,
many many years from now and you ve lived as long as you want to live and you've accomplished every dream. You've done everything you want to do,
But, for whatever reason it's the last day- and you have to take all of your work with you all of the interviews- you've done your books- your
talks. Your research, everything,
The various said ever has to go with you to the next place wherever you go, but you have a piece of paper and a pen and you get to write down three things you know to be true about these. Sperience is the lessons we have learned in your life that you would share with the world,
Ok, my call to three truths, but would you say, is the only way to related nodded about life
about life life life in general. Yeah. What would you be your your three lessons or three truths that you would share with the world about your existence? The first thing is not scientific at all, but I would say that love is by far the most important thing that you can have in your life and really cultivate and appreciate it, because we always make time for other things and they prioritize what really matters in the end, I think the second part is that I with I hope that I might be remembered as somebody who really helped other people, somebody who had
Haggerty and worked very hard, and I say non birthrate thing for me: number three or perhaps number one, and this point is really tat right- is right.
even if we know what it is that iran is wrong, even if everybody's duet leave your truth, because that really the most important thing over on for me as a person
